i've changed the substrate in loads of tanks without taking the fish out and have never had a problem :)

i used the same sand and changed from sand to tahitian moon sand without taking the fish no problems at all :)

just fit some after market lights , hagan glo lights sets are made in all sizes and are fairly cheap :)

i bought a new eheim 2217 and have had a few problems, there customer service is a joke , i sent about 5 emails to 3 different addresses before i got a reply ,there filter are normally very good but i don't think i would buy one again. if you need to lube the seals don't use vasaline you should...

i bought a new eheim 2217 external filter approx 4 months ago and i am completely sick of it, no matter what i try i can't get to run quiet. it makes a kind of rattling noise which i know is normally trapped air but in this case i'm sure it's not, i've had a 2213 before and had no problem...

i tried sticking a backing on my tank a couple of times with seaview and each time after a few hours bubbles start to appear and it starts to peel off around the edges, i got really annoyed and threw it in the bin, i now just use a board behind the tank which can be painted any colour and slid...

+2 for NLS, it's the only pellet food i use for all my cichlids :)

i use Tahitian moon sand it is expensive but well worth it in my opinion :)

my male gt was the same he would never eat veggies but the females would , i always use "new life spectrum" cichlid pellets which is a complete food so it doesn't really matter :)

i'm interested in this also, i've somehow managed to scratch my tank, i've been using a scouring pad thats not supposed to scratch glass unless i had some gravel trapped in it but i'm normally very careful.

i wouldn't be using that tank any more unless you can replace the bottom section ,the way it is now the tank has no support on that corner and will most probably crack ,i would at least drop the water level down as far as possible to take the stress of it until you can get it sorted.

my aqua one was almost silent ,i replaced it with a eheim and it's not so quiet.

i do it's the only pellet food i use for my cichlids seems to really help with the colour on this fish and they all love it :)

i got mine from "aquatics online" they were no help at all i explained that it was my only filter so i couldn't do without it ,another forum suggested trying a new impeller and shaft and i said i was willing to pay for the parts and if this cured the problem i would send the old parts back and...

i can't help but i'm having a similar problem with a new 2217, i'm very disappointed as it was recommended to me as a quite filter i've had various other external filters and all have been much quieter than this one. i've bled the filter of air as per the eheim instructions and checked for air...

there are lots of stores that don't give great advice i don't know why people are always bashing pets at home, why don't people do there own research first and decide what's right for them. i personally don't have a problem with them or with any other outlet, it's simple if i don't like the look...

i've also heard the same that most of the reds are infertile.

i bet it's the jewels that have done it, they can be nasty.

i say go for it as well, i know convicts are common fish but they are also a great fish to keep full of character i love mine :good:

on the last picture were you can see the blue wire it looks like you have the wire jammed in the socket and then another plug on top if thats the case it's well dodgy ,i wouldn't be able to sleep at night if my wiring looked like that :hyper:

i would have thought 5 pellets is not enough for an oscar, my 3.5" red devil eats approx 10 of those pellets morning and night :)

i've heard of a lot of roma tanks with this problem, i had a bubble filter in one of my tanks the water used to leak out and as soon as i stopped using it it was fine.

this is what i use now works really well just connects to the end of the gravel cleaner and a couple of squeezes and it's away, has a nice weight to it as well so the end of the hose stays in the bucket, no more swallowing fishy water :)...

i used to do this when siphoning my puffers tank not very nice when you have pieces of half eaten mussels and worms i now use a priming bulb on the end of the hose so no more sucking :)

jewels are indeed nasty, i had to remove one that was bulling a green terror that was twice it's size.

i had a pearl gourami that only had one pelvic fin when i bought it and it grew back fine so i would think thwy will grow back ok, unless it is a birth defect :)

i was the same episode and commented as well, the water looked filthy and needed topping up as well, i always notice fish tanks on the telly :)
