Some Pics Of My New Additions

Well, it's not quite that bad; a 55g would be ok for a single jd. This tank is definitely packed, though; I suspect that it's difficult to keep the water parameters under control (which might have been a factor in the demise of the silver dollars). Down the line, we've got a potential 7-8"...

Could These Fish All Work In My 55 Gal

I think your second idea can work, but the 55g is pretty much done with a breeding pair of largish cichlids in residence. The only thing I might consider would be a pair of convicts, where the pair could hold off the breeding acara. I don't think a rainbow can do that, and I don't know what a...

    75 Gal Stocking ...almost Finished...ebjd

Ok... You want the ebjds and you think you'd like to get a breeding pair? The kribs are probably going to die. Two silver dollars are not going to be as happy as they would be in a larger shoaling group - and they're really going to be too big down the line. Peacock is gone; that's good -...

    Cichlid Tank

Um... Gee that seems like a whole lot of fish in a 100g tank! And yes, firemouth can be obnoxious; I'm surprised your sevs don't have him towing the line though.

    Cichlid Tank

I see you have your stocking pretty much settled, but just to add something for you to consider... You've toyed with the rainbow vs. keyhole idea, and if it were me, I think I'd go with the rainbow just in case the acara gets aggressive. I think the rainbow would hold up better than the...

Cryptoheros Sp "honduran Red Point" - Now With Pics

Dithers... As you can see from my sig, hrp are not the killers that convicts tend to be. Mine chase the platys up high, but never make a serious attempt to kill them. Kind of reminds me of a bull chasing birds out of "his" meadow. ;)

    55 Gallon Cichlid Tank?

I would consider the sev, chocolate, and green terror to be out of the question for that size tank. Nic (female), Sajica, Firemouth are all ok. Maybe you could add in the altifrons, but the leucostictus might be pushing the sizes a little...

    Cichlid Communtiy Q's

I agree with FishCrazyMan... No to sal and jewel, not advised for a single geo or a keyhole, a maybe for fm. I would say your best shot would be the rainbow.

    125 Gallon - Wet Pet - Personable/aggressive

Salvini, GT (actual Rivulatus would be REALLY nice if you could find them). Clowns should be fine with most anything, but get them large enough that they don't look like snacks!

    My Sexy Salvini

I'm going with male also. Not only no blotch on the dorsal, but also no blotch down low on the gill. With both missing, I'd say the odds are pretty good that it's a male.

    Non-cichlid Tankmates For Blue Acara?

I've had decent luck with both tiger and rosy barbs. If you use tigers, make sure there are 6-7 of them so they're too occupied with each other to cause trouble for the other fish.

To Keep Or Not To Keep

Well, that'd save on fish food, since the butti will just eat the other fish! :rip: Firemouth can be skittish anyway, and yours is probably scared to death at this point. I'd be hiding out too!

    Jaguar Cichlid?

Let's try it the other way around... An eventual minimum of three clown loach. Start with however many you want since you're unlikely to find really big ones at a store. Over time, they will grow quite large and you can whittle the number down. My three are all about 6", give or take half an...

    Can I Add One?

I'm guessing that all these guys are currently pretty small? A full grown gt will be cramped in a 55g. A full grown jd will want a 55g all to itself. The firemouth can't hang with that crowd when they grow out. Common pleco gets too big (as others have noted). I would definitely lose the...

    New 4ft Cichlid Set-up

4 foot as in 55g, 75g, or...? Makes a big difference. If it's a 55g, then you may be looking at a single largish fish; a jd, for example (this is for life). 75g moves you up to a single gt, jag, or a jd with a smaller fish (maybe a female sal, for example). You can have more fish as they're...

    The Amazing Fading Jack Dempsey

Could it be trying to blend in with the light substrate?

    What A Surprise This Morning!

Angels tend to like vertical or at least angled surfaces for egg-laying. I agree that's it was the angels who "did the deed". :good:

    Blue Jack Dempseys

Not all; 50% blue and 50% normal looking, but carrying the blue gene. You probably know that, but what you wrote could be misleading.

    Christmas Is Coming...

Rosy barbs should be fine with your fish. You may lose an occasional barb, that's what happens to dithers sometimes, but overall they should be ok. Ime, rosies will grow to maybe 3"; typically, more like 2". Pretty much the same as tiger barbs (which are also decent as dithers).

New World Cichlids With This Stocking

    Keyholes would probably work.
  21. R

    My Jd's

Based solely on the gill markings, I'd guess that the "normal" jd is female.

    Severum Tankmate ?

The sev in a 55g will be ok for a reasonable time, but eventually will fill it. They not only can get to near 12", but get really thick as well. It's rare, however, that you really get to see one full-grown (at least around here). I've had good luck with tiger barbs and cichlids as long as...
