Cryptoheros Sp "honduran Red Point" - Now With Pics

Dithers... As you can see from my sig, hrp are not the killers that convicts tend to be. Mine chase the platys up high, but never make a serious attempt to kill them. Kind of reminds me of a bull chasing birds out of "his" meadow. ;)

oh wow an other HRP keeper :) yeah I have had sword tails recommended to me apparently the wild strain would make a biotope for them. But I dont know if I want all the babies tbh hoping these will breed (which is looking more likely tonight all ready)

how you getting on with these mate, I really like the look of them, one pic i saw the blue was amazing, makes me want some.. do they breed as much as convicts do? i kinda want something where theres always something happening. what was the deal with your lfs? did you have like 6 and then after you got a pair rehomed the others?

They look beautiful, colouration reminds me of some of the Malawi's I've seen. As Ad asked, how you getting on with them?

They seem to be doing pretty well I think - Ive had a few issues with water quality (tank was fishless cycled) which seemed to make them flash I believe this is down to nitrite poisoning though it seems to have cleared up and not had issues for the rest of the day (and yes I have been here all day lol) I spent ages looking for any other issues with them and there doesn't seem to be any it was a nitrite reading of about 0.1 which ive read can be particular nasty for fish just a trace lingering but that has cleared up now and I am keeping well on top of it. I am thinking that the quality is their fault as they uprooted a lot of plants when trying to find food so I had to replace them all with a big piece of java fern on wood which basicaly has filled the tank out. And has actually done a better job in 2 seconds of aquascaping than I did fighting with plants for about a week before they went in lol.

Despite all these issues their colours have remained fantastic and the female has developed her red belly and the male is digging out the inside of one of the coconuts and hes made a little wall against the glass about 2 inch tall - not sure of this behavior though as I read that they bred on open surfaces like rocks or leaves.

The LFS I got them from was ferrybridge aquatics in yorkshire (fantastic place) and there were 2 pairs - originaly I thought that we had split the pairs and I had Male A and Female B if you see what I mean but they seem to have re-paired and I'm hoping that in the next few weeks a water change might just promt them. But no no eggs just yet :( On the PFK website there is a good guide for breeding these though, the author had a higher Ph than I do so I may experiment with this at some point but for the moment I want to let them do their own thing.

With the plants Ive kept all my background plants but chucked/sold the rest because it was just too much really. They love their caves and are generally very active - though a little skitish at times the male in particular hides when you approach the tank but then comes out quickly.

Because of the water issues I am going to leave it at least an other 2 weeks before I add anything else but I'm looking at medium barbs like black rubies or larger tetras like black skirts/phantoms. And also in quite a while adding some plecs of some kind though waiting to be sure the filter can handle it.

Will try and get a few more pics up soon :) Thanks for the interest :D
