i think he'd be worse off kept in the tiny bowl. he'd be better in the 63ltr and doing daily 50percent changes with dechlorinated water

it's 5-6 inches total length. fab fish and wanted to get it a mate. does the mate need to be an ancistrus tamboensis or will another ancistrus about the same adult size be ok to cross breed

i dont think you have much choice about fish in cycle. everyday stan will be sitting in ammonia within an hr of changing the water. put him in the bigger tank and keep on top of 50percent water changes daily for the new tank and check ammonia levels daily aswell.

they look nice. is there anything bigger for a centre peice fish thats bright and colourful about 6 ins long

i now have a 4ft 200ltr tank with a fluval 205 filter. current fish are 4 adult bronze corys 2 medium angels 1 adult moonlight gourami 6 guppys 6 lake kutubu rainbows I want a largeish colourful fish like some of the cichlids but is there anything peaceful to go into a community tank

it seems to me all the p at h are missing a lucrative trick. they should sell fully cycled noodles and sponge and 50ltrs of cycled water. id pay good money for a cycled filter

The staff are only as good/knowledgeable as the training that is given to them. they should be making an effort to train themselves aswell. an hours reading at night would give them the basics they need but it seems alot of them cant be bothered to eduacate themselves. not just pets at home...

update So far ive been doing 50percent water changes every other day and the ammo is slowly decreasing so today i checked the amm level 24hrs aftwer a change of water and its at zero. nitrite is less than 0.1mg/l as just slightly pink. Ive lost one male congo tetra and so far all the other...

just put your old cycled filter on the new tank and some of the old water and you have a fully cycled tank

maidenhead in worthing were selling adult bronze corys for £5 each yesterday.

my fish are very colourful. all juveniles but still very pretty. ill get some spirulina flake from local maidenhead shop. i was thinking of adding some praecox but i may get some 3 more lacustris at a later date to increase the small shoal i have.

small rianbow species are very pretty

i have 6 lake kutubu rainbows and youve got me worried now so should i go out tomorrow and get some spirulina flake urgently to keep the rainbows healthy

as an update. the ammonia is leveling off and in 24hrs it usually stays at less than 0.25ppm so i change 40-50percent water each evening i'm now showing low level of 0.1ppm nitrite so at least the ammo bugs are working nicely.

i would of crammed as much of the new gravel as i could into the filter as well as leaving the other media in the filter and i would have thought you'd have a cycled tank in 2 weeks. leaving it on the tank floor will spread the bacteria around just a lot slower. tell lfs to clear off and find...

if you removed all the undergravel filter bed and added an external filter then you are starting over again with fish in cycle and if you check the stats on the water id be very surprised if you didnt have massive ammonia and nitrite levels. goldfish and tropicals dont live together. the water...

with a 50percent water change your ammo will still be 0.5ppm. do another 75percent or 2 50percent changes tonight

your power head filter would make a massive difference wouldnt it. i could put the whole foam insert into the 205 and seed the filter in less than 2 weeks.

i changed 60 ltrs late last night and the ammo is now showing 0 and the nitrite is at 0.1mg/l. so it looks like the zeolite/carbon filter is removing the ammonia. but if the zeolite removes the ammonia then the filter bacteria wont multiply as there is no food for them. so it looks like i need...

i have 6 of these lacustris in my tank and even though they are fairly small now they are very pretty. one i get the water params under control i'll get a bigger tank and some more like bosemans and praecox

i have a 205 so anything i can place in the basskets would be great. even foam and noodles or any mixture would be perfect i can come anytime day or night, whatever is best for you. if i got some media i could relax a little bit as i know id be going in the right direction.

that would be great as it would vastly speed up the process. horsham is only about 30 miles from here. let me know what type of media it is and i can replace it with the new equivalent
