sorry have more questions!

When I move all my tanks at the weekend to fit my new one in I am going to have to do a huge water change in order to move the 125L safely.

If I put half the water from that (125L) into the new tank (440L), along with a mature, fully cycled external Fluval 205 and a new rena external filter, how long do you think it would take for my new tank to be fully cycled?

The new Rena filter, will take approx. 2-3 weeks to cycle if not more.

Why dont you just 'clone' some media from the other filter? If you do that it will only take 1 1/2-2 weeks :)

So if I put half the media from the fluval 205 into the new Rena it will be quicker? They are both going permanantly on the same tank.

just put your old cycled filter on the new tank and some of the old water and you have a fully cycled tank

as the water carries no bacteria, of insignificant amounts, water will be on no use to the filter. but it could stabilise the new water to, close to, what it was in the original. if you have added no extra stock, the tank is indeed cycled. but you will need to add stock carefully. you only have a colony capable of processing the waste, from you old tank stock.
