    Anyone Have Killer Yoyo's?

I am trying to solve a mystery... In the tank, we keep having mystery deaths, and we are trying to figure out if it was fish on fish violence. My wife is convinced that its the YoYo's that are the culprit. I myself think its the Giant Danio. Tank population is bunch of neons, bunch of...

    System Set-up

one thing to consider is that the slower the flow through the sterilizer, the more effective it will be. In my searching, I was never really able to find a "too slow" speed, and I have a magnum 350 going through a 25 watt Gamma, after a 5 foot lift. So the water flow isnt fast at all, but the...

    Concerning Moving All My Fish.

sounds like a solid plan, I would go for it. The Tetratec wont have any additional load placed on it, and even with the added water volume, it will have the fluval to help it out.

Need Help With A Cold Cathode Setup...

I just would have expected a dimmer spark, not a partially completed one... it seems illogical to me for it to only "fire" part of the way across the gap.

    Cold Cathodes

Something else you can do is look through all the "wall wart" adaptors that you have lying around left over from all the electronics that you no longer use. Then just chop the plug off and re-wire. Of course, you will need to look for one that will give you the voltage that you want.

    Lighting Newbie

As a reference, your standard daylight is considered to be 5500K. This is where most of your "daylight balanced" bulbs will be. A regular lightbulb is about 3200K. Above 6500K, you will see a definite shift into the blue spectrum, were as if you drop below 4500K you will see the light become...

    Dp's And Kuhli's?

I was noticing today that I am collecting quite the family of excess bloodworm in the gravel of my DP tank. Anyone have any ideas of what to put in to eat them once they head out of the cone? I was thinking a Kuhli loach since they seem to spend a lot of time in/under the gravel, and the BBG...

    Filter Media

well, it sounds like you have two tanks working at the moment. Thats a good thing. I think that what I would do would be to tear the one tank all the way down to get rid of all the worms. Then, get the tank back together but use the filter media from the good tank in the new tank. Use new...

Need Help With A Cold Cathode Setup...

Hi folks, I am trying to get a couple of night lights on my tanks, and I picked up two sets of 2 each 12" tubes. I have one set rigged to an ac adaptor putting out 5v at 2 amps. I can get the tubes to light, but the light only goes about a third to half up each tube. The results were the same...

Good Deal On A 30 And 50 Gallon Tank?

    Please Help With Lighting Problem

you might also get a big handful of floating plants to add. This has three benefits in that not only will it cut the amount of light that gets to the bottom of the tank, but it also gives them a more natural place to hide. Third benefit is that it will also help in using up nitrates and nitrites.

What To Put In A 75 Gal.

perhaps a hedgehog? I think they will go for earthworms, and you never have to worry about water chemistry! Seriously though, just search on 75 gal stocking and see what you come up with. Or find a fish you like looking at pictures of, and then start the research. Gotta give a little more...

    Advice On Altering Stand

Just ask yourself if you could park a full size truck on it. If you think the answer is yes, than try it. Otherwise, that kind of weight will be VERY unforgiving if you make a mistake. Not to say it cant be done, but think it out first. If I were doing it, I would probably get some 3/8 angle...

    Hydor Koralia 1 Question

Actually, I am going to correct myself. I have a 2 and a 4. But the 2 seems to do well in my 37gal and the 4 blows the heck out of my 77! Good strong, your about to go over the waterfall curent! I get lots of fish surfing out in it, then dropping back into the calmer water to take a break.

    Hydor Koralia 1 Question

I have both a one and a four, and they are both quite quiet. Have you tried to clean them out any? every now and again, I will unplug and replug mine a few times. It seems to drive the blades to the top of the shaft and clean off any of the junk that seems to build up there.

    Reflector Improvement For Satellite Light?

It might seem kinda silly, but my all glass brand hood had a white plastic reflector behind the bulb. I was after a little more light, but I am not going to be able to replace it anytime soon, so I just used a little 3M #77 spray adhesive and laid a sheet of aluminum foil in there, shiny side...

yeah, he looks pretty roughed up... Good news is that he doesnt seem to be swelling up or getting red streaks, so probably no internal injuries and nothing has gone septic... Keeping my fingers crossed, though. I bought three of them about a year ago, and one died 2 months ago when the tank...

    Coconut Root Mats

what they are is a tightly woven mat of coconut fiber that apparently are an ideal rooting medium for the plants. As a general rule aragonite (crushed coral too) will raise your pH 1 full point Is there are relationship between quantity of aragonite to water volume for the amount of change required? Open Wounds On Hatchet Fish

I am not sure if it was the other hatchet or if it was the giant danio (my money is on the danio, the ba*&&%$&d) but some one tore the heck out of the side of one of my hatchets yesterday. What is particularly distressing is the full half moon bite out of the bottom! I moved him out of that...

    Coconut Root Mats

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone has tried out the coir fiber mats? They sell them for hydroponics, and after looking at them, I think they might do well as a back wall for the tank, and maybe even as a tank floor over top the substrate. Of course, I am not convinced that Elvis might be...

    My Little Dream Tank.

    How Can I Build Cabinet For 77x17x18 & 72x30x18

What kind of tool access do you have? What you might be able to do is go to the local home depot equivalant and pick up some angle iron, maybe 2-2.5 inch x 3/8" thick, and the cut a groove up the front third of your 4x4 (this would allow the iron to cover the middle of the beam) and nest it...

    Uv Steriliser For Freshwater ?

I have a 77 Gal, and I just added a 25w Current USA "gamma" to mine, and I have to say that the water is absolutely sparkling. Some important considerations are how fast are you going to pump water through it, and how much are the replacement bulbs. The big thing with the sterilizers is what...
