you might also get a big handful of floating plants to add. This has three benefits in that not only will it cut the amount of light that gets to the bottom of the tank, but it also gives them a more natural place to hide. Third benefit is that it will also help in using up nitrates and nitrites.

shouldn't be a problem, I have two in a 5.5 Gallon (U.S.) and they seem to be doing well. Of course, I do have a lot of floating cover and places to hide.

I have both a one and a four, and they are both quite quiet. Have you tried to clean them out any? every now and again, I will unplug and replug mine a few times. It seems to drive the blades to the top of the shaft and clean off any of the junk that seems to build up there.
