Hydor Koralia 1 Question

I bought a Koralia 1 to help with circulation in my tank and can't fault it on that front, the only thing is it's so bloody noisy, does anyone else have this problem or is it possible mine is defective?

I have a Koralia 2 its very quiet. I do remember another post a while ago saying their Koralia is loud. There may be a fault with yours. You could try swapping it and seeing if yours has a fault or buy a Tunze instead.

I have both a one and a four, and they are both quite quiet. Have you tried to clean them out any? every now and again, I will unplug and replug mine a few times. It seems to drive the blades to the top of the shaft and clean off any of the junk that seems to build up there.

I's been noisy from day 1, just an insistent vibrating noise, think I'll send it back and see if I can get it replaced

Not really sure how to quantify how powerful it is, but it seems to do the job fine, its only on a 120 litre tank though, anything bigger and I reckon you'd need to go up a model. What size tank is yours in?

Not in the tank yet but i have tested them in a bucket, i got two for a 400litre tank

Iw oudl be surprised if you can have it properly set on the side with the magnet in a bucket.

Put it in a tank and see how they do.

Part of my mind is telling me there were issues on early Koralia Hydors in relation to their noise levels (sorted on later ones) but I can't for the life of decide where I saw it.

Actually, I am going to correct myself. I have a 2 and a 4. But the 2 seems to do well in my 37gal and the 4 blows the heck out of my 77! Good strong, your about to go over the waterfall curent! I get lots of fish surfing out in it, then dropping back into the calmer water to take a break.

I remember someone posting on here (or maybe RC) about it. Something about the impellar shaft on the early ones being dodgy and vibrating a lot.

I have two nano's that run fine, just bought a korillia 1 but havent tested it yet.

Did you replace yours in the end. My koralia 1 is really loud as well (nothing like my nanos). I can sometimes get it going ok for a little while but then it just go back to being loud again after a short while. Its brand new. I have checked the impeller housing to make sure there is no sand or salt in there and tried moving it into different positions. I also took the flow director bit off the front as well.

Unless I can find another way to fix it Im going to have to take it back as it is way to loud. It seems like part of the housing on the back of it is loose as if I pull it off the magnet and hold the back of it it isnt so loud (maybe its the fitting that holds it onto the magnet that is vibrating?)

Oh and about the power of these for Victor. It does sounds like there may be an issue with yours maybe. I had mine about 4 inches below the water pointing from right to left (and a little downwards) and it created a LOT of visable water movement on the surface.

Sounds really similar to mine, it's doing my head in as the tank is in my bedroom (woken up at 5:30am this morning... grumble grumble  ). Mine occasionally quietens down ,then starts getting noisy again. Going to email the place I bought it from over the weekend and see if they'll do anything about it....
