Tina's Twin Bommies

Males are normally larger and more robust. They are also more colouful and only males have the high dorsal extension..hope he does well for you.
As Buddy says - only males have the long and high dorsel fin (but the problem is getting to see the dorsal fin erect in the first few days  )

Really sorry about your other Mandy, I learnt the same lesson

:fish:

There is a long fin lay flat, it has not been erect yet, did not see that close as that part is really thin. I compared it to Trod's and Trod's seems to not have a thin extension at all, I kow Trod's is female.

I am quite gutted, these really were the fattest Mandarins and large ones that I have seen for a long time (since my local lfs had the pair in in April) and I know there were females in three other tanks. I even asked if they had any males. If I had managed to see that dorsal extension in the shop, I would have got a female as well knowing that I am having the 6 ft tank. I dream of a stunning pair breeding in the tank for me. If not in the 6ft, they could breed in the seahorse tank.

I am doubly gutted now.

theres a few videos on UR of members with breeding mandys, awesome to watch. we can all dream! ive read that their fry is so hard to raise though

I have never had a salty tank, but reading this thread and looking at your gorgeous photo's I must say I am tempted. Great thread about a nice tank. :good:

 I am in love

That is just stunning, was that noise coming from them too??

thanks for that Ben, lovely  I believe they spawn at night. Must admit I thought about a pair of mandys, but don't really want to get back in to the pod culturing again and don't think my tank is big enough for two :-(

:fish:

I really don't mind the culturing, it is the fish I got into marine keeping to be able to keep, I would jump through fire for this fish. (Not easy on crutches either)

You should have seen me all last night and in the early hrs of the morning, religiously opening the bag and changing a few cups of water for fresh sea water every hr or 2, then there was retying the bag for the journey (very early) this morning in order to get him back safely and with as little stress as possible. If I buy any in future from there, I will be coming back the same day so they will bag with pure oxygen for me. No point his time as I needed to do water changes. That is dedication for you.

Thank you

It is not as hard as I first thught to be able to have a beautiful marine tank. It takes many hrs of research and dedication. You cannot be lazy like you can with a freshwater tank. They are so much more rewarding though.

I have had a phonecall from Chris at Fishmans frags this afternoon. The frogspawn that was supposed to arrive last week was returned to him and was still alive would you believe. He is giving that one a little recovery time.

My frogspawn has been dispatched, he has liased with APC, the regular driver should be back and I should get in the morning. I honestly cannot fault the service from Chris at all, just wish I could have gone on the NWMC dy out on Saturday and visited them along with others. Will go on the next one, blooming operations.

Have got some piccies for you.

To start my Trachyphillia.

Pic 1 is last week after water change, pic 2 is today, it seems to have started fold as it is expanding now, growing very fast.

I did manage a couple of the Mandarin (Caesar for now), not my best as he is moving all over the rocks.

See the thin Dorsal extension on this one

Thanks Buddy, I was convinced he was male. I did not see that dorsal as it was flat against the body till I got him back to the mother in laws.

Will look out for a female for him.

PHWOARRRRR i am still in love with that leather!

love the mandy aswell

Sorry about your Mandy. Hope you have better luck & find him alucky lady

Tank looking great as always.

You are all going to love these pics.

I fed the tank around 8.45pm after feeding my own face first. Look what happened after feeding time. He is definately a boy so will be referred to as Caesar from now on. Have given up on the name Mereneptah, its Jinxed.

We got to see the finest display of finnage I have seen in a long time.
