Tina's Twin Bommies

Thanks Ben, that is what the LFS lady said. I had to phone and order some bits from TMC as she is going tomorrow, I told her about the wrasse and my water stats etc, she said they don't handle stress well and sometimes moving from a smaller tank to a larger tank completely freaks them out. Come to think about it, he was flashing at the brace bar on the tank on Monday night. I did think it was a bit weird but it down to the move.

I have water going for a water change, LFS is going to see if TMC have another one tomorrow. If my water is ok Friday I will see what she has come up with. If not if there is one I like, she will keep it for me till water is ok.

I will have to show Andrew that picture, he liked the leopard wrasse so I am thinking he may well like that. I think it is stunning.

I hate fish dying on me, it does not happen very often either, cannot remember the last one apart from old age Betta. It makes me feel guilty.

Sorry about your loss TI. Wrasses can be flaky sometimes :(. I assume it was eating?

The only time he stopped eating was Monday night, he was eating brilliantly before that, would appear at the surface as soon as food hit the water.

I just thought he was a bit off after the move. He was not skinny either, just beautiful.

Have been to lfs today and got the last bit of rock, it is covered in some beatiful purple coraline and have some interesting shapes too. Got my V2 Bubble Stop, the home made phosphate remover and carbon holder was not working as I could not fix it in place properly. The bubble stop works great. I have the connections I was lacking so will do a few plumbing modifications this weekend.

The best news though on the LFS ladies trip to TMC, she picked up an absolutely stunning Filamented Flasher Wrasse for me. As the other was a Birthday present for Andrew, I did not tell him he had passed away after the move, I have just replaced him. I did a 25% water change yesterday and nitrites were under control again, back to 0. I also have another coral, this time from MA, another Rhodactis but a different colour. The green ones had fragged themselves (apart from 2) and took off round the tank so I had nothing to look at. They will appear all over the place soon apparetly so for now I have this other colour. Unfortunately, the daft clowns are currently hosting one of my zoas.

The other casualty to the swap over appears to be my bubble coral, it has not opened properly since the move. I noticed a funny colour yesterday so did a freshwater dip, I also squirted with a syringe. It appears some red cyano was covering it. It is starting to perk up, I can see the polyps trying to expand so am being optimistic. If anyone has any advice I waould appreciate it.

Pics will follow later, need to take some more.

I'm sorry to hear about the wrasse TI :rip: , always is a shame when you lose a fish but good to hear you have managed to replace him, looking forward to seeing the updated pics.

As far as bubble coral go I have moved mine around a few times in the past from one tank to another and it went abit mardy for a few days and stayed closed but then started opening back up a few days on, nothing to worry about I dont think as they are quite tuff corals so I am sure yours will be fine... just leave it to sulk for a bit! ;)

Cheers 1entra.

I have added a few more pieces of live rock, Fuji premium this time covered in coralline to finish off the rock scape.

One new rock, my favourite

The Full Tank Shot

2009_0522Reef0152a.jpg

I have to say this flasher seems to have settled alot quicker than the last one did. The last one shot for the cover of the rocks, now this could be the difference in tank size. The other difference was that the last one was ordered from TMC and delivered to the shop. This one was collected in person by the lady at the LFS, especially for me, she did a fantastic job in choosing him I think.

He has been out since the moment I introduced him to the tank, he fed straight away, greedily and did not go to bed as early as the last one did. He also seems to be getting on very well with the clowns, unless they annoy him when he chases and flashes at them.

The really good news is that for a favour (we won't go into that  ), Andrew is taking me out tommorrow and says I can have a very special present, I am whirring in my head as to what to have. I don't really want to add another fish this side of the holiday so it has to be a coral really.

I reckon we are looking Duncanopsammia multiple head kind of special.
I would think the tank would be a bit immature for an elegance, or would it??

Any ideas welcomed, we are going out Saturday afternoon.

my elegance got swapped to my new tank on day one with the rest of the stuff. Its fine. Im sure you keep the water quality at a stable perfect too. But it could end up being a lot of money risked too. Mine likes little tiny bits of prawn though if you do go for it.

Tank looks greta btw, and a stunning new wrasse/

Thanks Ben

I have read about problems with Elegance, I believe there is one in the shop that has been there a month or so, if so this seems a good bet to me as isn't it the first few weeks that you really need to worry about?? I read in reefkeeping that there was a drop in sales for a while so they were not collected as often, Borneman thinks that this may have allowed whatever was causing their demise to exit the holding tanks, despite him not fullfilling Koch's postulates in finding and organism or treatment for the problem.

I am not sure on the price of the elegance though, I know the Duncan (a fair few heads) is £85. LPS do seem expensive at the moment, you mentioned this to Anguila though I think.

The wrasse is gorgeous isn't he, he is not scared of me or the camera at all, really seems to have settled well. I am really pleased with him, he has lots of room to flash too, and he did it a fair bit yesterday.

its a shame you are not nearer to me...there as 2 duncans in my LFS...12+ heads at £45. If i didnt already have some i would snap one up.

OK now that is gutting, I do seem to pay a little more for corals than alot of people on here. I must say though that they are exceptional quality ones and often slightly rarer that I see. For instance, my frogspawn, most common is the branching form whereas mine is the rarer non-branching. The leather is the rarer green polyped variety and the hammer is the pink and green not honey and green. Then just look at the bubble (gawd I hope he is OK) that is the pink one not the cream colour. The galaxea was very reasonably piced though, I don't think that is the rarer colour, but I may be wrong.

The LFS lady has a stunning rare frogspawn in her display tank, she gets frags occasionally from the man that gave her that one, it is the one with pink polys and green tips and non branching, I am on the waiting list for a frag of that (it will cost me).

Will see when I get there, I may completely change my mind and go for something else, although I did want something for the clowns, this is the second night running they have hosted my bloody zoas, they are so stupid.

EDIT There is a nice Torch aswell, oh decisions decisions. The other thing is that Kieron who edits Ultra Marine Mag, whilst living in Nottingham originates from Preston, he buys all his stock from the same place.

Oh Tina, that aquascape is bl***dy fantastic  and the wrasse, amazing :good:

I too have the rarer hammer, that is green and pink, so lovely and the rarer frogspawn (not the branching one) - he has bright green balls (can't think of another word  ) and lovely chocolate polyps. My toadstool has the longest polyps I have ever seen - so yeah, I'm, with you - pay your money and takes your choice, put rare or rarer on the front of something and I WANT IT

It seems with me to just be the corals that need that one word in front of it RARE, I don't mind the fish, I just like having different colours in them as well as different areas to inhabit and different habits.

Yes my frogspawn has the bright green balls too, the pink shafts with the bright green balls are amazing though  that is the one I really want.

Cannot wait to see what I choose, Andrew is going to be wishing he had not promised this special present. What men will promise in return for

EDIT Thanks Seffie, just hope I don't need to dismantle for anything come on new LR
