You all may have realised that I have been a little quiet in my journal this week. There is very good reason for that, all will be revealed today though.
Firstly if you read Seffies Journal, you will know I got a couple of frags this week, so without further ado, I think I should show you them.
I got a Pavona frag and a zoa frag from JBS Marines who have an ebay shop, I got an offer of another forum though.
Pavona
Zoas
My nem - Rabutt, I have noticed the tentacles are forking, does this make a difference to the ID
The hysterix - Notice the new branches in only a week
Reet, onto my new purchase, I spent a fair amount of time umming and ahhing over this. You will remember that last week I went to see a stunning tank where I picked up my SPS frags. The tank was a 6x2'2x2 and contained a stunning collection of Tangs. I spoke to Nev quite a bit about the tangs that night and subsequently.
I asked about adding a Tang to my system and was told by NWMC (North West Marine Club) members to go for it as I was contemplating a juvenile yellow tang. However, I did not get a yellow tang.
You may remember me saying this in one of Bae's threads last week.
I was looking at Tangs this weekend.
There were 3 or 4 Yellow Tangs I saw but not really one I would have purchased.
They ranged from too large for me (prefer juveniles) to very insipid in colouring.
Saw much nicer Sailfins though and some very nice orange shoulder and mimic Tangs. Saw a very very nice juvenile Caribbean Blue Tang too.
Yep, you guessed it, the Caribbean / Atlantic Blue juvenile tang came home with me last weekend. I was warned by the shop that I may have problems with feeding, I asked to see it feed in the shop and it took Brine / mysis like a pig. So I made the decision that it was mine.
Now you may think I am stupid for not quarantining the fish, I had my UV switched on, but after speaking to Nev, he did not QT either. So I introduced the fish. The LFS said a few of my fish may be a problem, the only one it turned out that was, was the Royal Gramma. The little 1" Tang has taken over the tank. A few days ago I noticed white spots, back to Nev as I knew he had whitespot when he introduced the purple tang, he got slated on a certain forum for the way he treated the whitespot. Isolating the fish canr stress the fish further so he advised me to step up feeding to 10 times a day and make food always available for the tang. Use garlic and other additives (I used New Era Liposome spray). He also said it may not be whitespot but could be stress spots. Today the tang is clear and the only fish with a couple of spots is the Royal Gramma. Now this makes sense as the RG and Tang are still having the odd tiff. I was also told to keep my hands out of the tank as much as possible, which I have done.
I think if I had panicked and pulled the fish to treat them, I may well have lost some by now.
At the moment (fingers still crossed and UV still on) I firmly believe it is stress spots and am keeping a close eye on the situation.
I suppose now that I ought to show some piccies.
Oh OK then......
Do you think I was good keeping a secret for so long??.......
Oh alright piccies here
I have not named the Tang yet. I am unsure as to sex but it needs to match his character as well as fitting in with my theme. He is very funny to watch and zooms round the right hand bommie screeching on his side as he does so.
He goes up to the Royal Grammas cave and purposefully winds him up, establishing the pecking order, however the RG will always defend his cave.
It should settle down soon as there is less and less confrontation each day, moving either would cause more stress so I am happy for them to work it out themselves, if there was any damage, it may be different, but it never goes that far.
Hope you like my little cherub of joy.
Can you tell the 6ft is going to be a Tang tank
