Tina's Twin Bommies

Thanks both of you, it is starting to get there now.

Bagu, the cardinal has moved about alot, she just always returns to that spot. She is also much more active once the moonlights are on, aparently they are nocturnal so this is no surprise. You should see her move when food hits the water though, quick is not the word.

Scott, I would not like to go for a tang, eventually it would need a larger tank and I am getting quite attached to the fish, not planning another upgrade for this tank for a long time either.

We are going for a dwarf angel and Coral Beauty, Flame and Cherub are all in the picture, it will be the last fish added though. The Mandarin will be added and the Royal Gramma (if suitable) first.

I do like to learn from experience though and the fact that you have had the assessor living with the Mandarin for quite a while now is good to know. I am also curious as to why you should be cautious mixing with Blennies, is it again, not all bassletts and not all blennies??

ok, I was commenting on this. Not all blennies are strickly herbivores :) I think mandy and gramma would be fine together.

Awesome FTS TI. Very Very nice :D

Sorry KJ a little misunderstanding, probably the way I wrote it.

Apparently LA say caution for mixing a Royal Gramma with a Mandarin and caution for Royal Gramma with Blenny. I have emailed them and asked them to clarify, stating which fish I wish to keep, hope I get a response.

From what little info I could find the majority of the Blennies diet is herbiverous, he spends most of the day pecking at algae, will eat some granule food but ignores mysid shrimp so it seems he is mostly herbiverous.

And Thanks KJ, as I say, it really does seem to be coming together now. There is so much to look at when you sit and watch the tank now.

Earlier I wrote this

Having done a little reading on the Royal Gramma, could it be that the Royal Gramma chooses a cave and defends this religiously?? Blennies are cave dwelling and the mandarin scoures the rock looking for copepods, could it be that these fish are most likely to get into a confrontation with the Basslett?? These are quite peaceful fish we are talking about too.

Then I emailed LA to find out why they recommend caution.

This is the reply I got

Dear Tina,

Thank you for contacting us. The reason we recommend adding these fish with caution is there is a chance they will fight with each other. We recommend adding the peaceful fish first this will give them a chance to build up a territory in the aquarium before you add the more aggressive species.

This is a little more encouraging. As long as I add the Mandarin and Blennie (Obviously already have) first and allow them time to become established, I do stand a chance, hopefully with no problems like Trod. At least I have chosen the more docile Royal Gramma so perhaps this could be OK after all.

Does anyone else have any experiences with these fish.

EDIT - wrong word corrected

very nice Tina. Last time i saw a picture it was of an empty sump  I tried looking for the last set of pics but could i hell find them!

There are links in my sig to all journals and pics taken. I did change the name of this journal a little bit back though, Twin Bommies sounded better. And Thanks.

It has come on a fair bit lately, I have my copepods now but the culture vessel did not come today, I have refridgerated them for tonight, if it does not come tomorrow I will set up the culture in a temporary container.

Will post pics of the reefphyto stuff with the copepod culture stuff.

it might just be firefox, sometimes it loads pics, sometimes it doesnt! I look an idiot sometimes when i ask for pics when they are already there lol

Thanks Ski

Reet todays project has been to do a water change and to use the bottle of sea view to enhance the background on the tank.

I am sure you will agree it is a big improvement, it also appears to be easier to take photographs. The fish stand out more as do the corals and the light seems so much brighter. I have also replaced the other PC bulb, I think the one was causing unwanted algae on the left hand side.

The copepod culture is underway although in a tupperware container, the container I ordered has not yet arrived.

Hope you like the pics.
