Tina's Twin Bommies

I have got to get me a hairy mushroom  I really, really like it.

new fish are great. Ignore seffie  , the cardinals are lovely fish, I prefer the pajama cardinal, still might get one for my nano, and push the stocking a bit :good:

Trod, the original ones had a problem with the Bad Crab, they receded, they were near to its hole.

These ones are growing great guns and cover the entire rock.

Thanks, they are really nice, they will grow very fast and can overtake an area very quickly, so I have read. Fragging will be the only option then. I did say when I fragged them, you would be first in the queue so watch this space.

A few more piccies for you.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Bagu.

Andrew was not sure when we bought her, I took him to the shop as he kept moaning about me getting fish when he wasn't there, then he promptly forgot about the list we made before we went on holiday and said he didn't like them. I had to go through the whole conversation again about them always being on show, being a different colour and about fish that live in different zones for the blenny. He then said well why did you bring me, so I repeated his quote about me always getting the fish when he wasn't there and him wanting to come.

Eventually we came out with the Bangaii and the blenny. It was extremely hard work, he is not coming with me for any other fish purchase than the dwarf angel, he drives me mad.

The Mandarin is my choice anyway, so I am doing that one.

When we made the list originally we had a purple firefish on there, Andrew decided after this visit that he does not like them, I am going to swing for him soon. :shout:

However he did like a False Gramma, now after a bit of research I found this to be Pseudochromis paccagnellae, is this right. If so its a bit too feisty I think.

After having a look at Reef Secrets book, some alternatives would be the Royal Gramma and Brazilian Gramma, would these be OK with my fish so far, the Mandarin and the Dwarf Angel??

To help you so that you don't have to look back

2 x Percula Clown
1 Yellow Watchman Goby
1 Yellow Tailed Midas Blenny
1 Filamented Flasher Wrasse

To go in
1 Mandarin
1 Dwarf Angel
??? Royal or Brazilian Gramma

If I could squeeze it in then another flasher, but only if water is good and a while down the line as it would have to be a special one.

I love the Royal gramma they are beautiful, but just looked at the compatibiltiy chart and it says caution with the Blennies and mandarin, not sure way though.
I have a Basslet and mandarin and not had any problems

I don't know why I did not check the compatibility chart myself, I use the one on Live Aquaria.

I am a bit confused as to why caution is required though, does it apply to all basslets, is that why it says caution??

I do like to learn from experience though and the fact that you have had the assessor living with the Mandarin for quite a while now is good to know. I am also curious as to why you should be cautious mixing with Blennies, is it again, not all bassletts and not all blennies??

Having done a little reading on the Royal Gramma, could it be that the Royal Gramma chooses a cave and defends this religiously?? Blennies are cave dwelling and the mandarin scoures the rock looking for copepods, could it be that these fish are most likely to get into a confrontation with the Basslett?? These are quite peaceful fish we are talking about too.

Does anyone have any experience mixing these fish that they could tell me about??

You could be on the right track there T.
I always think that all fish, just like people are individuals and as such show different behavior, unless there are very obvious reasons to not keep fish together, I would try them and as you say learn from experience.

My little assessor is the most peaceful fish you could meet, he/she (sorry don't know which  ) is just such a character and fun to watch, especially when he swims upside down :fun:
My firefish will sometimes have a go at him and he just dives for cover.

I have found that alot of reef safe fish on Liveaquaria come with caution, I guess thats just them protecting themsevles. You have to try some things yourself and see how you get on. I have found that if I am always over cautous i never add anything to the tank.

You could be right the VM, I do always have the sump and a spare tank (at the mo) if things go slightly pear shaped, it would just been a nightmare to catch the fish. Is it worth it?? Now that is something I need to think about.

Trod, I am quite encouraged by your experiences, by all accounts the Royal gramma is possibly the most peaceful of the family too, it may be a good experience. I would definatley need to add the Mandarin before the RG though I think.

Do you think if I emailed LA and asked why they advise caution, I would get a sensible answer?

Anymore experiences with these fish would me most welcome.

LA should answer your questions. They've always answered mine. I've called a few times to ask about products or fish.

Maybe it says caution w/blennies and mandarin b/c they eat the same food?? Some blennies are pod eaters anyway. They'd both be bottom dwelling fish.

Its not blennies and mandarin together I am worried about KJ, the blenny eats algae anyway. Its whether I can mix a Royal Gramma with those two. It does say that the RG would eat zooplankton but it will eat so much other stuff aswell. My copepod stuff arrives tomorrow hopefully, I have made an extra order and ordered their copepod culture kit aswell. I really want to get the copepods started although when looking in the refugium last night, it is teeming with life.

A couple of FTS for you, between the two shots you can see all fish and 1 of the fire shrimp.
