My first fighter, actually my first ever fish, my Red CT Apollon, has just undergone a 3 day blackout because of the blue/green algae in his tank. Unfortunatly it didnt clear up the issue, so i did a complete clean out of his tank, removing him and his little Otto friend. I cleaned the tank...

I currently have a brood of about 30 guppy fry in a tank. Some are about a 4 days older than the others, but the size difference is minimal. They are roughly about 2 months now, maybe a little less. Some have started to show colour in their tails. But none, as far as i can see, have shown any...

I have two 20L acrylic tanks with a fighter in it. Not too long ago, both were suddenly invaded with a thick green layer of slimy algae, which traps oxygen bubbles. I cleaned out both tanks, and replaced the grvel in one, and scrubbed the gravel in another. Now, the tanks both have the algae...

as far as i know, cory need a lot of floor space to dig in. The height of the tank really dosen't matter. 9 x 8 seems a tad on the small side for cory, and as they do thrive in groups of 4+, then maybe cory aren't your best bet in the tank. But don't quote me exactly on it.

Hey, haven't been on the website for a while, but im in need of advice now! Currently i have 3 males and 4 females, the females in a community tank, the males in 35L and 2x 20L tanks. But i am getting a 3ft tank, and wanted to put all the males in it, with dividers of course. It is 36 x 12 x...

I came home today to find my new male stuck between the glass and the filter. I released him, but his white/blue tail now has a bright red streak along the bottom. He is very subdued and i am scared he is going to die of shock. Is he bleeding, or is it new colouration?

I came in today to find my fighter stuck behind the filter...literally wedged between the glass and the filter. His before white tail now is bright red along the bottom! Is this blood? Or just a way of expressing stress? What should i do?

i was going to add sand...not a good idea?

depending on what you have, i'd say melafix would be your best bet, cheap and reasonably harmful to most aquatic animals...of course you could have the exception :) melafix promotes fin re-growth, however, like bronze-cat said, post what else you have in your tank and size etc. becasue they...

I have just got new Arcadia Arc 35L for my fighter, and i wasnted to put in a sandy substrate (i am going for the oriental look). But i really want to know how to wash sand. Gravel is easy, but sand...how would one go about it? Any advice is muchly appreciated!!!!!!

Firstly...awww poor guy...and yeah i totally agree with the Melafix idea, i use it for any fish that has fin damage. I hope he pulls through... And secondly lovely new green boy you got there!

Ok so here is Irri, my new white boy, finally set up his Arc tank, 35L, no substrate or 'bits' as of yet, soon to come though :) (Btw he is called Irri because i think he looks very iridescent) And his tank :D

thanks Liz, and yeah i will do. I was treating the boy with melafix, but i was told that i needed to apply it directly to the head and all sorts, and i think that being scrutinized for a mistake i made is a bit harsh, like i said i am new to this, and nobody can say they have never made...

Well my orange DT didn't work out, he had an infection on his head, and his tail wasn't looking too great either. So i have taken him back, and am going out hunting today for a new guy...hope i find one as pretty as him...
