Aw darn!
I went shopping before I saw your reply. I got some Triple Sulfa instead... Should I get the maracyn plus tommorrow and change treatment plans? Money is not a problem, I just want the right stuff.
Update:
Amonia: 0
NitrIte: 0
NitrAte: 10ppm (more on this)
Current PH: 7.2
My wife has been doing the tests for me (I work a lot) aned it seems she was unaware of how hard you must shake the NitrAte test to get a good read. I did it today and it was high.
I did a water change 33% water change...
Its a black patch. I've been checking the stats regularkry and they were all good, but the PH was somewhat high (for the snail)
I'l do some tests and post some more recent and exact figures though.

I'm getting really frustrated.
He wont eat peas now.
He wont eat the medicated food.
His scales are turning silver.
Now there is black on his "neck"
Otherwise his bahavior hasnt changed.
Would salt baths be too stressful at this point?
I'm not sure whats going on.
I dont want to...
Thanks for the reply.
The peas havent seemed to help.
I havent seen him poop so he may very well be constipated.
His gils are a bit pale, but they seem to have always been so. Kind of silver I mean.... I'm not sure if I ever remember them not looking that way.
Should I give him medicine tha he...
Hey everybady. I'd really like some help quickly, because my wife and I have become very worried about my betta Kurosawa.
He lives in a heated 10 gallon tank with two dwarf frogs. He used to live with a snail as well.
About a week ago our snail passed away and ever since then my Betta has...
I'm fairly new to the forums and no expert, but I would definitely get a heater. Danios can live through lot of begginer mistakes (from what I'm told) but they are still tropical fish. If the room isnt heated, I think its especially risky to do without a heater. Unless you live somewhere...
Good point. I'll prolly end up trying that. I'm gonna go ahead and wait a while and see if the water clears up since I've removed the clay pot.
I figure that if its the bogwood its not gonna do much harm.
Maybe I'll put my clay pot in the quarantine tank if the water DOES clear up...
See, thats the thing. Its been in there over three months and I boiled it & etc before putting it in. I HOPE someone will tell me that its just the bogwood. What do you think? Is that tooo long for the bogwood to start?
After this occurred we ran the wood under some running water and the water...
Why would my tank have orange water?
I added a new charcoal filter, but that only reduced the problem.
My bog wood has been in the tank for a long time and this is only a recent occourance.
The other decorations are silk plants and a clay pot.
The clay pot seems like the most likely culprit...
I appreciate you all trying to help.
I'll try doing some more research on the interspecies interactions of the two.
It doesn't matter anyway, I'm not gonna get another gourami most likely.
really? that stinks.
I like gouramis in general but I'm not gonna buy them if they this much of a headache. for some reason I thought I'd read honeys were a bit more hardy.
Just out of curiousity anybody have any thoughts on the male/female issue? There is no definitive info anywhere I've seen.
I have two robust female Dwarf Gouramis. One used to be mean, but has since calmed down.
I really like the male's colors, but its seems they are too sickly for a beginner like me. I've had two die from what I suspect was the dreaded "dwarf Gourami Disease" but I'm not sure.
I hate losing fish...
I have a 29 Gal tank cycled tank with:
2x Female Dwarf Gouramis
1x Male dwarf Gourami
1x Bristlenose Catfish
There is a pretty good amount of plants, some hiding spots and some floating plants.
The male is pretty mellow and decides to chase the ladies once in a while, but just chills most of...
most places don't carry the females, because they are less attractive. I only say this, because your question seems to suggest you are facing such a situation. If you saw a female you'd know it. I have 3 LFS that I frequent and only one carries female dwarfs.
Firstly, I'm curious if your gonna get him his own tank. If not, I don't think you should be keeping him. Secondly, I am no expert, but I strongly doubt its a toad. Lastly, I don't think you should go back to that shop EVER AGAIN.
So... does anyone suggest baking the wood? Is baking going to be any more effective than boiling? I understand that boiling helps release tannins, but I'm more curious about any "hangers-on" the wood may have.
Really? Why?
I'm not attacking you, I just havent heard that. I'm having trouble understanding why that would be the case. Are they exeptionally clean or somethin'?
Yeah I know what you mean. Every fish store I've been checking I ask about cycling the tank. If any of them give an answer I like they will be chosen as my place of preference. I do not currently have such a place:D
Anyway, now I feel like my wife and I could probably sex them on our own...
The only reason I suggested you check your tapwater is mine has really high ammonia. Many people run into this it seems. Its good to know in a situation such as yours... My water is .50 right out of the tap maybea little more if I look at the chart when I'm feeling bummed:D.... If yours were...
Cool thanks for the help!
Still not sure if I wanna run the risk of getting rowdy males. Hmmm... I wish I could just get the darn things fixed! :D
'Nother question. I'm gonna read up on sexing them, but will a person at a store be likely to help me in this endeaver? I know it depends on the...
I'm no expert, but it seems that you may need to see if you can take some fish back.
I only say this because if you were to boost the schools of danios and tetras up to good amounts then there wouldn't be room for anything else... assuming that you've only got 20g.
Plecos often get real big...
Yeah, thats the only reason I asked about the males. I'm aprehensive about getting one thats already knocked up. Thanks for the info. Its pretty hard to find any on this aspect of such a common fish.
I did learn however in my most recent research that Swordtails are probably not the type to...
I'm curious if you can have just two male platys in a community. I've never kept a platy before, but I'm already bored with the idea of dealing with their fry.
I know some swordtails have been known to change sex. Can a platy do this?
I'm having a lot of trouble finding info, because these is...
oh, okay. None survive boiling? I mean, know that there are some bacteria that live in extremely hot water. I guess these are the only ones that do survive the hot?
Do you reccomend baking the wood? Or just boiling?
I just asked because I've noticed some people bake in addition to boil...
Sorry to bother ya'll, but after reading the sticky about wood I decided to snoop around the net and get more info. I've came across people suggesting you bake the wood at 200F.
I figure boiling is enough to kill most "baddies" but I can't imagine why no one talks about freezing the wood. Do...
Wow! You upgraded pretty quick! at least you care. I agree with the others about keeping your eyes peeled, but you already know about all that.
I myself would like to do a golfish tank with three fellas in it. There is something very classic looking about it.
thanks for the replies.
I had read the pinned stuff about cycling, but was a bit confused about the food thing. Now I see it as a completely different method. Things are more clear. Went out and got a test kit tonight I start the ammonia stuff...
Thanks to everybody who tried.
