Hi Im New Just Joined

Well done for getting a bigger tank, your fishies will appreciate it :good: . They may already be a bit stunted from having been kept in a small tank so far, but hopefully you'll see them growing soon!

I think your tank is now about 24 gallons which is still going to be a tight squeeze when they are a bit bigger so don't be tempted to put any more in. It would be worth keeping an eye out for second-hand tanks on ebay / the forums as they really should have between 30 & 40 gallons for the three of them when full-grown. I found a 30g tank for my friend's goldie for £3 at a car-boot sale so it doesn't always have to break the bank!

Your empty 7gallon tank would make a useful hospital tank in case any of your fish get sick, then you can treat them seperately without it spreading to the others / the medications interfering with your filter.

Post some pics of the goldies in their new home!

I got to get a better filter i have Fluval 1 plus i need to get a plus 2 version in it the tank is massive to my old one.

might get some real plants later on i also need some more gravel  all i need is to sell my old tank not had it long so its almost new

yea im alright ta

Pics i post them soon :D

Putting a Fluval 2 in with your existing Fluval 1 as well should do it.
Gravel... maybe you could post a wanted note in the buy sell and swap? someone in your area might have some going spare?
O yes and don't spend loads on real plants as goldfish often decide to eat them! Test them out with a few different types and see which ones they will let be.

would a second hand FLUVAL 105 EXTERNAL FILTER be ok ?

It would be okay if you ran it with the other filter, too. I would suggest getting a filter big enough to handle the filtration in at least a 50 gallon tank, because goldfish are messy fish, and that way when you upgrade you won't need to upgrade the filtration again. If you do that, you should run the new external filter for 3 to 4 weeks along with the internal filter, and then your safe to take out the internal.

Wow! You upgraded pretty quick! at least you care. I agree with the others about keeping your eyes peeled, but you already know about all that.
I myself would like to do a golfish tank with three fellas in it. There is something very classic looking about it.

Wow!! Respect to you Mike B! Most people don't react in the right way to being told they have a tank too small.....and you just went out an bought a bigger one within days of finding out!!!

I think this is definately a case of this forum doing good work..... keep it up guys!

:D thank you

Yay! Kudos for doing the right thing rather than getting stroppy about it, that's a really refreshing attitude. Bet your fishies are well chuffed with their new home. :good:

By the way -- I noticed a lot of water bottles in the pic -- did you use it to fill the tank? tap water treated with a few drops of dechlorinator is a lot cheaper and probably better for the fish unless you live somewhere with really awful water problems. Just make sure you have a special fish bucket to use for water changes (so that no cleaning products etc get into it).

Good luck with your fish MikeB, let's hope you see a growth spurt soon.

When you get your fish back into their bigger home, try adding several bunches of Elodea Densa; they'll benefit the water quality (very fast growing, too) and when I kept Goldfish - many, many years ago - they usually left them alone. Good on you for getting a bigger tank and taking everyone's advice in the right way. Enjoy your pets.
