Hello fellow West Midlander!
ow am ya?
ow am ya?
Putting a Fluval 2 in with your existing Fluval 1 as well should do it.
Gravel... maybe you could post a wanted note in the buy sell and swap? someone in your area might have some going spare?
O yes and don't spend loads on real plants as goldfish often decide to eat them! Test them out with a few different types and see which ones they will let be.
It would be okay if you ran it with the other filter, too. I would suggest getting a filter big enough to handle the filtration in at least a 50 gallon tank, because goldfish are messy fish, and that way when you upgrade you won't need to upgrade the filtration again. If you do that, you should run the new external filter for 3 to 4 weeks along with the internal filter, and then your safe to take out the internal.
Wow!! Respect to you Mike B! Most people don't react in the right way to being told they have a tank too small.....and you just went out an bought a bigger one within days of finding out!!!
I think this is definately a case of this forum doing good work..... keep it up guys!

Yay! Kudos for doing the right thing rather than getting stroppy about it, that's a really refreshing attitude. Bet your fishies are well chuffed with their new home.
By the way -- I noticed a lot of water bottles in the pic -- did you use it to fill the tank? tap water treated with a few drops of dechlorinator is a lot cheaper and probably better for the fish unless you live somewhere with really awful water problems. Just make sure you have a special fish bucket to use for water changes (so that no cleaning products etc get into it).
Good luck with your fish MikeB, let's hope you see a growth spurt soon.
When you get your fish back into their bigger home, try adding several bunches of Elodea Densa; they'll benefit the water quality (very fast growing, too) and when I kept Goldfish - many, many years ago - they usually left them alone. Good on you for getting a bigger tank and taking everyone's advice in the right way. Enjoy your pets.
