I have two robust female Dwarf Gouramis. One used to be mean, but has since calmed down.
I really like the male's colors, but its seems they are too sickly for a beginner like me. I've had two die from what I suspect was the dreaded "dwarf Gourami Disease" but I'm not sure.
I hate losing fish and I think it would be foolish of me to just keep buying them and watching them die. Medications didn't seem to help and I'm not interested in trying again.
The stats in the tank are always good and water changes are frequent.

My questions are these:
1. are Honey Gouramis much hardier than male dwarves?
2. Will a Honey Gourami get along with the two female dwarves? I know that they wont breed, but can they coexist peacefully in a 29gallon US?

My female has become less aggressive lately, but I'm considering adding another female dwarf if that matters.

I had honey gouramis and lost the lot they are not hardy at all.
I won't keep gouramis anymore.

really? that stinks.
I like gouramis in general but I'm not gonna buy them if they this much of a headache. for some reason I thought I'd read honeys were a bit more hardy.
Just out of curiousity anybody have any thoughts on the male/female issue? There is no definitive info anywhere I've seen.

I think its one male to two or three females.
I had seven honey gouramis and they all died one by one.

I've had a male and female honey gourami and they both died within a month or 2 of getting them all other fish are fine regular water changes etc so wont be getting them again the bigger gouramis seem happy enough in my tank though so think its a dwarf thing!

One male should have atleast 2-3 females yes. It is too bad, i had a dwarf for over a year, then he died, and i nvr got a female to last a long time. I did have a beautiful male opaline for a year and a half, and then he died from a shark:(, got injured cuz he is too brave sometimes, was relocated in an attempt to heal, but he passed. Beautiful guy tho. They are hard to keep, im not sure how much experience you have but maybe wait and get some more with different fish first, then consider it again. Maybe leave the 2 females alone if need be.

Murph

I appreciate you all trying to help.
I'll try doing some more research on the interspecies interactions of the two.
It doesn't matter anyway, I'm not gonna get another gourami most likely.
