    Male Salvini

Salvini's can be quite shy, yours is still probably settling in as well. I'd give it more time and hopefully they will get used to your presence. A tip is to put a little bit of food in the tank whenever you walk into the room, that way they will assosiate you with being fed so when they see...

    Tiger Barbs In A 75g?

I think a 75 gallon is more commonly 48"x18"x21" (LxWxH). Though I agree this will be fine for clown loach for many years at least as they grow slowly. If you are planning on upgrading within a year to a 125 gallon (think thats 72"x18"x20", then I would say a group of 6-8 clown loach will be...

    Male Salvini

Hard to tell from pictures, if you can get a shot of an erect dorsal fin we should be able to say (if the fish is old enough). The way to tell is that females have a black splodge in the middle of the dorsal fin (like female texas) and males lack this marking. Female showing spot (BigVines...

    Oscar Tankmates For A 5ft

Depending on the width theres quite a few combo's for a 5ft tank. Oscars will go with clown loach, but as davo points out the growth rate difference may be a problem. In the end it depends on the width of the tank before any solid stocking option can be suggested, though going on the...

Setting Up Tank For Green Terror

Its my opinion that a 55 gallon doesn't offer the width needed for an adult severum. They are big chunky fish, having seen fully grown adults it shocked me how beefy these fish actually are.

    Best Options For A 55usg

Wouldn't recommend neons, too small. Something deeper bodied and fast would be the best. People often use giant danio's, buenos aires tetra, zebra danios to black widow tetras. For your tank I'd be looking at giant danio's or buenos aireas tetra due to their larger size. I have heard someone...

    Best Food For Cichlids

Yeah, who you share a house with can influence fish food options. I've had crickets, mealworms, earthworms, a look in the freezer and theres been rats, chicks and mice (not for fish).

Pictures Of Some Of My Shrimp

Haha, I just had an image of a GAF just bulldozing dozens of cherry shrimp out of the way. Like Mosses parting the red sea in order to get to a favourite sitting spot.

    Best Options For A 55usg

Sals grow fairly slow/average (compared to other NW cichlids like oscars), probably same growth rate as a JD. To promote faster growth have a good varied diet and plenty of water changes. Tank will seem empty, but as you said the fish will grow to fill the space. You could leave the tiger...

If You Could Choose Only One Tank, What Would It Be?

75 gallon wide made of acrylic. I don't have a python so lifting buckets for a 210 gallon would sap all the fun out of fish keeping. Its a nice size to stock with plenty of options. Acrylic because its so much lighter than glass and apparently clearer (plus comes with a longer guarantee I think).

    Friends New 29 Gallon

If the 20 gallon had no fish in, its likely that the bacteria would have died off. So you probably wont be able to instantly add fish as there would be no bacteria alive to convert the waste. Have you asked your friend what sort of fish they would like/tank theme? If so what did they say.

Decided To Go Back To Angels

Yep, F0 is the term :good: I also think that its the case that only one parent has to be a 'F' for their offspring to be labeled as 'F', which may be abit strange if you get what I mean. For example if you have a F1 convict, and you breed it with a 'regular non F store bought fish' their...

    Change Of Fish! Jaguar Ect..

So for the 250 gallons (I'm presuming US gallons) you intend to stock 1x red terror, 1 x midas, 1 x jaguar cichlid? Returning the blue acara, flying fox etc. Whats the dimensions of the tank, if its 250 US gallons I'm thinking they will be around 8ft x 2ft x 2ft (thats 240 gallons I think)...

    Change Of Fish! Jaguar Ect..

If you plan on keeping the clown knife, I would rehome all other fish as it will most likely eat them as they grow. For tankmates I wouldn't have the more aggressive cichlids (jaguar/RT/RD) though in a larger tank aggression is less of an issue, I wouldn't personally risk it. I'd go for...

    Change Of Fish! Jaguar Ect..

Would have to be a VERY big tank for that stocklist, not to mention if you do get a jag/RD/RT then some fish would most likely be eaten/killed (flying fox and upside down catfish, clown knife might be beaten, blue acara also). Out of interest what size tank is it? Clown knifes get huge and when...

    Silver Dollar Help

I had 4 silver dollars in my juwel vision 260, I rehomed them as I felt there wasn't enough room for them. They often went smashing into the sides if I was doing a water change, or walked in the room. They do get to the size of a side plate and need room to swim as they are active fish. I...

    Best Food For Cichlids

Hikari pellets are often promoted as a good pellet (I use cichlid gold/staple myself). NLS is also meant to be good, so if you have them I would try them some more. You might have to 'starve' them until they make the switch. This normally involves not feeding them for a few days until they...

2 For 1 Fish Sandwiches With Purchase Of Fries...

I didn't get the picture at first (then I changed the contrast), and got it :P. I can still remember the clip from You've Been Framed when a cat jumps into a fish tank, or when an oscar bites a cats tail and sends it flying. Sort of reminds me of lolcats material

Pictures Of Some Of My Shrimp

Shrimp are great :good: Like the last pic especially, the GAF dwarfing the cherry. How do they get on together?

    Mealworms ?

I'd go with a pellet as a staple food where possible, they have the nutrients/vitamins in for a balanced diet. As Cane says you can gutload mealworms (and other foods) which make them more nutritious than simply throwing them in, but if your fish are happy with a good pellet as a staple then I...

    Salvini Tank Mates

I would think that tank would make a home for a single specimin, though as Dav086 said I wouldn't add a con or rainbow. The only other tankmates I would think people would suggest would be dither fish, however I wouldn't personally use them as they would most likely be killed by a salvini...

    Best Options For A 55usg

Definately won't work. The convicts will own the tank, the green terror will be placid until it reaches 6"-7" then it 'snaps' and justifices the word 'terror' in its name. Salvini's can also be hit and miss, they have the teeth to back it up as well. The plec might get mauled as well. If...

    Possible Tankmates For My Oscars

    My New Oscar

Does this mean the pacu been rehomed? Nice oscars, but again you're in the same situation of having fish that will outgrow the tank, 2 oscars can't live in a 55 gallon.

    Channa-ornatipinnis Have Laid Eggs..drawf Snakeheads

Wildwoods sometimes has some in (has assam at £29.99 currently and gaucha at £19.99). Trimar might be another option. I don't know any LFS in Manchester but B.A.S might be a worth a look at.

    Channa-ornatipinnis Have Laid Eggs..drawf Snakeheads

I'm afraid Channa ornatipinnis would grow too big for a 25 gallon tank. There are however smaller snakehead species that would fit nicely in such a tank eg. Channa Bleheri, Channa orientalis, Channa gachua (might get too big), Channa sp. assam (not sure on this ones correct scientific name)...

Any Killis Suitable For Peaceful Community

    Help Sexing Rams

Those are some nice rams, are they of the long fin variety or just very nice?. Dwarf cichlids aren't my thing so I couldn't be sure on sexing. One method people say is by the blue spangles in the black spot (has spangles = female, no spangles = male) but I'm not sure how reliable this is, as...

Minimum Tank Size For Jewel Cichlids

Do you want a pair or just a single fish, or tankmates as well. For a pair I wouldn't house them in anything less than a 30 gallon, they are very aggressive towards each other and other fish. If you want tankmates you're looking at a big tank, especially with a pair. And even then they would...
