Tina's Twin Bommies

Thanks everyone.

I made some purchases today. As usual because they are acclimatising, photos will be later.

Went to the Aquarium at cockfields Barn, nice selection of corals and some nice small frags. Then we went to The Living Reef in Oldham, very clean, nice fish and reasonable prices. Third stop was Fishworld at Chadderton in Oldham, really nice bloke, had a coffee in there and a good natter, got bargains on what I bought from there too.

Will let you know when I have photos.

Its living in the North, folks up here are a reet friendly bunch, plus they give you the drink while you are browsing.

Having said that, he did show me the engine room for the £9000 aquamedic system he has for the Marine fish and coral, don't think he normally does that.

Upshot is, I won't be buying the Aquamedic Oceanrunner 3500, that I was planning on using for my return pump in the 6ft.

Best thing is I got £20 knocked off the total of my purchases. :p :hyper:

Oh the joy of living in Leicester.
Everyone seems to think every other person has a grudge againest you and you carnt trust them.
Even family.

that what i got for listening to her speaking about her Oscar for 40minutes

But Tina, that is kinda cool :p maybe ill try asking her for a coffee and leave with a black eye

Nearly ready to take the pictures. Lights are on a little longer than usual, just because of the time we got back. I wanted some light for recovery. You will see why in a bit

Reet, stock is from Fishworld in Chatterton, Oldham. Cannot fault the shop, can get in touch any time if I have any problems, (does that sound ominous or what??)

Firstly, this is an early birthday present off my mum.

I have a hammer and a frogspawn in the same colour, so to add my collection of Euphyllias, I needed a Torch (don't worry Ben, yours is a different colour).

Now the purchase was a colony of 5 heads. Not bad for the price ehh. Anyway (I forget his name) but the owner said I would probably be better off fragging this coral before putting it into the tank. That was why I wanted a little extra light tonight, wanted to make sure they recovered.

And recover they did. (By the way, Andrew did the fragging under my supervision, I could not due to my arm)

Two decent sized frags just like my hammers are. They are not in their final positions yet, after fragging them, I did not want to light shock them, so will gradually move them over the next few weeks.

My second purchase.

I had done plenty of reading on a web site recommended by Seffie so many times. You can never remember exactly what it says though. Daft thing is that there is a computer in this shop for use by the customers to check info on the net, should have used it.

Reet, not that anything is wrong, I may add.

However, I saw a Nem in a tank that had 2 labels on, Malu nem and Green BTA. Looking at the nem, it was not green but it was not a Malu either. I asked the man about it, he said it came in as a Malu about 4-6 weeks ago. In that time under 3 T5 tubes (1 blue), it had doubled in size. I am thinking now and looking at the Nem. I remembered looking at Malu's and finding that they were an opaque cremy colour with purple tips. This one was not opaque, the tentacles looked translucent. In the shop the colour did not look brilliant but was a pinky brown. I remember reading in Reef Secrets that you could get Brown ones. After much deliberation, I decided to take it, I can contact the shop with any problems. He showed me how he lifted it out in so doing I got to examine the foot, which was sound. I had already examined the tentacles so was pretty happy.

I asked where exactly in the tank I should place it whether on rocks or on the sand and was told to try rocks as if placed on sand they can move about more. He gave me an extra bag to use to handle the nem when placing it in the tank aswell.
I was also advised for the first night to turn my powerheads off. (Good job I have a sump, I will still have circulation).

So I dripped her (mines female) over a 3 hr period and gingerly placed her into the tank. I had arranged the spot where the hairy mushrooms were, with a few smaller rocks to create a small cave for the foot. I placed her gently on one rock. She has moved 1" forward and 1" t the reet in the last 2.5 hrs. However the foot is not in the cave I planned it to be in, most of it is on the sand. So far so good. Good job I am a severe insomniac ATM, you can guarantee I will be watching like a hawk.

I am convinced now it is a bubble tip, I think it should be darker pink than it is but everything else is good, no whiteness, healthy foot, closed mouth (it did open a little after the journey and acclimatising). It has taken some Mussel with Brine and Mysis as it is not huge at the moment and I need to get some silversides.

Enough Rambling anyway.

Will be calling her Meritamun.

Hope you like

Was it Matt you dealt with at Fishworld Tina???...next time tell him you want a bacon buttie with yer cuppa,lol....nice guy!!!
Nice buys there Tina, love the green torch especially...

Lovely torch

But the star of the show is the Rose Bubble tip, yes I think it is a RBTA woo hoo - if it is she will not like being on the sand, she will find it difficult to move off the sand, she needs to be on the rock. If it is a malu, which I doubt, then she will want to be in the sand.

Really looking forward to watching what happens - I know you will keep us posted :good:

So next time I go in I say to Matt (yes it was Matt), Buddy boy said I should have a bacon butty with this here brew.

Matt was a very nice bloke and could talk for England, just like myself.

Seffie she is on the sand, she has not moved much all night, I am working myself up to getting her back on some rock, I have some gloves (non latex as I am sensitive to that). I think I need to bring the small rock out that I wanted her to attach to. I figured if she was attatched to a small rock, it would be easier to move her once I get the 6ft.

I will have a go at that in a min. :good:

Just get something flat and stiff and slide it under her foot ( I just used one of those flat, long handled cooking utensils, the type you use to turn over eggs in the frying pan ) , pick her up and place her on the rocks - she will probably like to nestle in the middle of one of your bommies - some where where there is a little cave but she can wedge her foot under some rock, you will be suprised how they can get their foot into such a small hole. I must admit that i did that with Bill, he retracted, I then picked him and cradled him with my other hand, I did feel a bit tingly but am hoping to build up an immunity

Seffie x

:fish:

ps you can bet she will move, when you place her on the rocks - oh and be careful, when she has retracted she might float, so just put a little bit of pressure on her using the utensil so that she can put her foot down, should only take about a minute of holding her in place

I did it.

I had placed some smaller rocks where the clowns hairy mushrooms were, so I pulled these out, i gently got my flat fingers right underneath the foot and gently lifted her up.

I placed her so that she could get her foot down into the hole and she did seem to stay. Once my hand came out of the water she did start to close up, at wich point I panicked.

Two minutes later she has extended out again and it seems that she has her foot firmly planted. :D

I am now going to spend the day with one eye on the tank, trying to see if she stays there.

I picked that position for three reasons, it does get a lot of light because nothing is shading it, the clowns are used to that position (although at present despite hosting a nem when I bought them they are glued to their mushrooms) and it is a nice flow without being blasted.

Fingers crossed.

Will take some more piccies when the white lights come on. I have moved a few things around too and the Torches are fully recovered this morning and looking stunning.
