ill do Trod, Thanks alot :good:

He is gorgeous, I keep finding myself staring at him to make sure he is OK. When I get up first thing I do is to check he is out and about and on the search for pods.

I have not been like this with any of the other fish, although I love them all too. Andrew even said to me last night, that I seem to be far more worried about that fish than any other. I have waited so long for him, I just want to make sure I give him the best.

He has started to come to the front corner of the tank a little and sit watching out, bless him.

mandarins and blennys seem to be the fish i got most attached too, i was exactly the same as you. The other is didnt bother anywhere near as much with.

Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Just when things were going reet.

I did my waterchange today, got to cleaning the powerheads, got the impellors out gave them a good clean, put them back together. Not one of the three worked, took them apart and put all three back together again, the maxijet worked, I had not put the impellor cover on correctly, easily sorted. The other two wer fine so I changed the fuses, just in case, nothing. Took them apart again, put them back together again, nothing.

Bang goes saving up for the Vortech MP40W aaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh.

I now have to go buy at least one powerhead tonight, maybe two depending on the flow. The only place that will be open is one shop that luckily is reasonably priced. The also stock the Seio Prop range at a reasonable price, have seen them working in their tanks and they are not too bad.

At the moment I only have a 900 maxijet and the return pump Rio 1100 less the head from the sump. My corals are going to hate me, they just get used to the directional flow I have and bang, going to end up hitting them with a completely different flow.

Why is this life not simple.

mine do that sometimes, especially the sump return. I just get a rubber rod thing and plug them in and try and turn the shaft. they start going soon enough

Yeah, they have done that in the past, I think its because they were cheap powerheads. They have just given up. I have tried to turn them manually, they don't want to do that either. Looking at the propellors, the rubber grommits at each end of the prop shaft have completely corroded and now they will not turn. The one rubber on both seems to be stuck in the main body of the powerhead aswell, will not come out.

I suppose that old cliche works here, you get what you pay for!!!!!

At least it means I did as I planned at the beginning (although sooner than I would have liked) in that I started out as cheaply as possible and have upgraded things as I have gone along.

Just wish they would have lasted a few months longer, would probably have had the money for the vortech in not too long.

Ah well the law of Murphy strikes again.

The good news is that next week I will get my Royal Gramma, it is reserved at the moment.

Oh how jealous am I, stunning Mandy :good:

Keep you culture on the window sill and in this weather you should get naturally occuring green water - if you are just going to rely on the phyto it needs to be the colour of a cup of tea  without the milk for any smart a**e !!!

Unfortunately with a 48lb Staffordshire Bull Terrier male that does not not like birds and lives in the country, coupled with low style upstairs old cottage windows, if I had a culture on there it would land on the floor and smash within 24 (probably more like 4) hrs. Only got 2 windowsills upstairs because of french doors in living room and downstairs there are no plug sockets anywhere near the exterior walls due to the being 2-3 foot thick.

Will adjust to the colour of a black cup of tea.

Got a seio superflow M620 which kicks out 2400lph, replaces the two that broke at 730lph each so I now have extra flow and its a diffuse flow rather than a jet. Having a little trouble siting it though due the size and the fact that the plug is a sealed unit (aaarrrrggghhh), this means after ensuring it is working, I need to cut the plug off to fit the cable through the hole meant for it and site the PH at the other end of the tank. Just a quick job for now as my back is agony at the mo. Going to see if I can get a magnet mount for it.

For those of you that have cultured copepods, do you reckon I am now at the black tea stage.

The tub is crawling with pods and can only get better.

I have ordered a magnet mount from Midland Reefs for the Seio M620, I purchased earlier this evening . It is a Sure Grip 50. That will hopefully mean the powerhead will look alot smaller and will be far easier to move into position. So far I am very impressed with it. It threw out a fair few microbubbles when I first turned it on but now it is so quiet its untrue.

I have also bitten the bullet and decided to order a Koralia 2 from Charterhouse aquatics to go with it. This means I will then have a spare maxijet. If either break, it will not then be so urgent to get a replacement. I will be able to hide the Koralia better behind the right Bommie I think. That will just leave the Seio showing slightly in the top left corner. It does mean the Vortech will have to wait a little longer but there is a long term plan in the pipeline that means me parting with my 55g freshwater tank. More on that once our chats are complete.

With the Seio 2400lph and the Koralia 2 2300lph along with the Rio 1100 return pump less the head from sump, I now have well over 20x turnover instead of 17+. The flow will be a nice diffuse flow instead of the old jet flow from the other 3 powerheads.

I have another new addition.

I also got some more (5) Cerith snails as these were the only ones whose numbers I had not increased since upgrading.

If you read YF's journal yesterday I mentioned finally succumbing to Big C's recommendations of a Sea Hare. The potential for releasing a purple dye if startled had put me off till now but I run lots of carbon anyway so after tackling this Bryopsis without getting anywhere, I had to give one a go.

The algae is mainly restricted to the first batch of rock I bought that was in the nano tank. I kept chipping my nail varnish pulling it out and it is ruining the look of the aquarium. Hence the new addition.

For a veryy weirdcreature, I do think he looks quite cute.

On to my very big news.

My mum is having my 55g freshwater tank off me along with most of the fish. I am (especially if Jenclibee is reading this) keeping my 2 L260 Queen Arabesque plecs which will have their own 20g tank. I am still hoping these will breed and a tank of their own will suit them down to the ground.

You may want to know why I am giving my mum the 55g, well Andrew and I discussing the layout of our Living room (24'x13') on Monday night and trying to work out what furniture we will be keeping and what will go once we have decorated. The upshot was that some furniture needs swapping and one tank needs to go, however both tanks will actually be going but the Marine will not go until our new tank is in place ontop of the solid wood floor that will go down. Where the tank is now, will be left until the old tank is swapped into the new tank then the floor will be finished off.

This is the best bit. The new tank is going to be 72"x18"x24" (LxHxD), meaning we can still use T5 lights. It will also be a reef tank. The cabinet will be built by Andrew as he is going back to his old job of Kitchen Manufacture in the next few weeks, his boss has offered him more money to go back there. His boss started out making Aquarium stands and has done many custom built ones. It will be hopefully done in a veneer. The tank will also have a large sump and I would really like to include a large central section that will be a type of refugium with lots of macroalgae and will be home to some seahorses. I will also need somewhere to grow chaeto on a reverse lighting cycle to keep pH stable.

This project will not be done overnight, neither will it be easy as there is so much I wish to include.

Once the 55g goes to moms, the joists need some strengthening and then the room needs decorating and the floor laid before we can start the actual tank build. Once we start there will be a new journal, I intend for Andrew to be much more involved in the design and set up this time.

Cor blimey, how many upgrades can one person do in a year.

This project I am very excited about. I am dreaming soft closure hinges on the doors to stop corals closing at the minutist vibration of the door closing. The powerhead choice will be a vortech MP40w with the Seio and koralia as a little extra. I will have I think a central weir with 2 drains and 2 returns. I have so much swimming about up there at the moment, one thing is certain though, the bommie look will stay and I intend to enhance this further with another 1 or 2 bommies and some extra depth on those I have at the moment.

I am so excited.

Blimey, don't you like to take a breath or something :hyper: It will be cracking.

The hare looks well cool, it would sort out my sand as well but the tank is too small. Maybe when I upgrade (hopefully the wife won't be readin this :shifty: ).

So 2 projects for this year, sure that will be the last one

Put it this way Garry, my other half suggested it, he was fed up of me saying "no you can't have that fish it grows too big". Of course if the other half offers to buy you and build for you a 112 gallon tank, you bite his hand off for it.

Having said that I did play a little hard to get and sulked a little at having to get rid of the freshwater, but once my mum said she wanted them, it was all systems go.

I am stuck at home aswell, it is my entertainment day and night and it will mean I can see the tank whilst looking at the telly. It will be pride of place in the centre of one of the walls. The room had to be decorated anyway and we have most of the wallpaper, paint and flooring already to do it. We just had to plan the room layout for when it was done.

I can spend the next, I don't know how long planning my sump and equipment. whoooo hooooo
