Tina's Twin Bommies

When do you go on holiday, I thought you were sunning yourself

Saturday Morning Big C, I am at the point after the meeting today where I really need to get away before I do something stupid. I have always loved Microbiology and my job, but after today I felt like giving HR man a punch in the face. My boss even picked up on the HR man misquoting me.

I am so mad.

Beware adding too many Nassarius snails TI. Since they're mostly carrion eaters, they can struggle and outcompete for uneaten food... I wouldn't add anymore of those :)

I only have 4 in my 65g... They're all HUGE, but there's only 4 of them

I am supposed to have 11 now Ski, but to be honest, I think that in the swap over I lost 2 of the original 5 which would make my total 9. Does that seem too much?? If thats OK what number would you think OK for cerith snails?? I will need to add to those, I have 5 now, my largest got eaten by a hermit 2 days ago. (Incidentally for anyone reading this, the hermit did not seem to want the shell either, it just eat it, it already had a cerith shell, I got them from LFS from those that popped their cloggs in transit, I read they like cerith shells).

Will not add any more hermits though, 5 is enough. One went powerhead surfing the other night, was really funny to watch, it climbed the silicone, hung on to the egg crate by the weir and lifted itself ontop of the powerhead and started munching. We missed it drop off, we had sat waiting for it for ages.

Will be doing another water change today before I go away tommorrow, going to get a Turkey baster this morning, you would not believe the trouble I am having getting a Turkey baster, does no where sell them outside of December??

Hope you have a great Holiday Tina, try not to worry about the tank :good:

If you still have no luck with Turkey baster today, ebay have some :good:

Finally whilst I was in the hairdressers reapplying the blonde (yes I know, its bleach), my mum went shopping for me and managed to find one in the hardware store (£8.70) not a chance was she going to pay that. Next she went into a little cheap shop thinking that she would be out of luck, finally managed to get one (girl had picked up from cash and carry day before, don't have them that much) at just £1.75. Hooray.

Did not end up going to LFS, by the time I had sat for 2 hrs in the hairdressers I just could not face going anywhere else, so as soon as I get back off holiday I am going to have to go for water to do a water change. Did not realise how much the hairdressers would tire me out does not bode well for the flight tommorrow, hopefully excitement and adrenalin will keep me going. If not the level of morphine in my blood is going to be sky high. (get that  ) Hopefully I will get the same feeling with morphine in the air as you do with alcohol where the effects are increased otherwise I am going to be pacing the cabin on crutches. I also have a tens machine so that may help too.

Mom seems quite confident now with what she is doing with the tank, she has a little note pad next to the tank where she has written down everything she has to do and how often she has to do them. I will keep in touch with her regularly anyway, and will be leaving the number for the LFS.

Sounds like everything is sorted for the great escape Tina, make sure you relax - and try for a short while to let the NHS drift away!

Have fun :fun:

I am off on holiday now, leaving behind the rain that has chosen today to make its timely arrival.

By 9.50 tonight, I will be sat in a bar overlooking the Aegean sea. I will think of you all.

Cya! have a great time :) :good:

Hi again, seems like I have been away for months. Had a fantastic time, Seffie asked how the plane was in her journal to save me repeating myself, plane was very uncomfortable pain wise but I managed, and had a good rest in the sun. Average temps of 35 degrees in the 2 weeks so cannot complain about cold out there.

The tank has been surprisingly good whilst I was away, the blow off with the Turkey baster I think did alot of good. When we got back about 2 o clock Sunday morning, the lights were off but I could see the glass was covered in algae, I prepared myself for a lot of work today, but was very suprised after cleaning the front glass. There was no red cyano on the rocks or substrate at all, there was some hair algae but not a huge amount and I managed to pull most out with my hand, Akhenaton is happily munching on what is left. BIG Happy Surprise :good:

I have swapped the protein skimmer as my pump arrived whilst away, mom had to empty the old one every time she came. I have also set up my NT labs brine shrimp hatcher, so will have BBS in a day or two. My salifert phosphate and calcium also arrived. On testing after 2 weeks of no water changes, my KH was a little low so have added reef bulider and calcium is also 380 from 480, so will add some calcium additive tomorrow mg is 1280 so not too low.

My mom seems to have done a fantastic job of caring for the tank for me whilst I was away, the corals are all blooming, the frogspawn and hammers seem to have doubled in size.

Mom says she just had one hairy moment whilst testing the SG in the first week, the flasher wrasse jumped out onto the brace bar, after a little screaming and some choice swear words she flicked it back into the water with her hand, she says she watched him for an hour afterwards in case he was in shock  . Bless her, she knows how much that fish means. The YWG did not get seen as often as the others which scared her a little but after me seeing it this morning she was very happy, she was a little worried about Emerald crab, I saw him in no time too. She also said she had not seen "the star fish thingy", (she meant the Banded serpent star) I told her not to worry as he was nocturnal and I am sure it was OK, sure enough he has been out since just the moonlights were on tonight, the first time I have seen him out and about since introduction too.

Mom also fed the corals with rotifers using a pippette and they seem to have thrived from this too. On the whole I am very impressed, especially if I have seen the last of the Cyano.

Have taken a banded serpent start pic, and will take some more pics tomorrow after downloading the holiday ones, just to show you how well she did. The new large tub of Ultiphos is waiting for me at the post office too, will collect that tomorrow. Seems it has done a very good job on the phophate level for me, may be time to switch it for fresh.

Could be another fish time soon, am really plased with the tank at the moment :good:
