Hi again, seems like I have been away for months. Had a fantastic time, Seffie asked how the plane was in her journal to save me repeating myself, plane was very uncomfortable pain wise but I managed, and had a good rest in the sun. Average temps of 35 degrees in the 2 weeks so cannot complain about cold out there.
The tank has been surprisingly good whilst I was away, the blow off with the Turkey baster I think did alot of good. When we got back about 2 o clock Sunday morning, the lights were off but I could see the glass was covered in algae, I prepared myself for a lot of work today, but was very suprised after cleaning the front glass. There was no red cyano on the rocks or substrate at all, there was some hair algae but not a huge amount and I managed to pull most out with my hand, Akhenaton is happily munching on what is left. BIG Happy Surprise
I have swapped the protein skimmer as my pump arrived whilst away, mom had to empty the old one every time she came. I have also set up my NT labs brine shrimp hatcher, so will have BBS in a day or two. My salifert phosphate and calcium also arrived. On testing after 2 weeks of no water changes, my KH was a little low so have added reef bulider and calcium is also 380 from 480, so will add some calcium additive tomorrow mg is 1280 so not too low.
My mom seems to have done a fantastic job of caring for the tank for me whilst I was away, the corals are all blooming, the frogspawn and hammers seem to have doubled in size.
Mom says she just had one hairy moment whilst testing the SG in the first week, the flasher wrasse jumped out onto the brace bar, after a little screaming and some choice swear words she flicked it back into the water with her hand, she says she watched him for an hour afterwards in case he was in shock
. Bless her, she knows how much that fish means. The YWG did not get seen as often as the others which scared her a little but after me seeing it this morning she was very happy, she was a little worried about Emerald crab, I saw him in no time too. She also said she had not seen "the star fish thingy", (she meant the Banded serpent star) I told her not to worry as he was nocturnal and I am sure it was OK, sure enough he has been out since just the moonlights were on tonight, the first time I have seen him out and about since introduction too.
Mom also fed the corals with rotifers using a pippette and they seem to have thrived from this too. On the whole I am very impressed, especially if I have seen the last of the Cyano.
Have taken a banded serpent start pic, and will take some more pics tomorrow after downloading the holiday ones, just to show you how well she did. The new large tub of Ultiphos is waiting for me at the post office too, will collect that tomorrow. Seems it has done a very good job on the phophate level for me, may be time to switch it for fresh.
Could be another fish time soon, am really plased with the tank at the moment
