New Nano...'isle Of Anubis'

Hadn't been on for a few days and was looking forward to seeing the island you created but its all changed, still looks like the start of a nice scape but I did like it before with the desert oasis :)

Sorry mate but the end result would have caused more problems than it was worth.... if i had to re-sort out the scape constantly, i would have just thrown it out the window lol.... this way once grown in hopefully (touches wood) it will only need trimming which is all that i want to do. I can put more effort and time into the 60l that ive just setup then (journal to come :))

Right then update of the finished layout, now just a waiting game for it to grow out... with any luck it will do like i have planned :).

The sand apart from the island section was removed and replaced with cat litter, then ive used xmas moss for the carpet, you can see a couple of strands coming through the holes in the pic... with any luck the rest will follow suit ;).

Dosing regime from tomorrow (18/10/2011) .....

Mon, Wed, Fri..... 2ml macro
Tue, Thu, Sat..... 2ml trace
Sun..... 50% water change and 2ml of macro.

Easy carbo..... 0.5ml daily

Sorry for the bad quality.

Hi mate and thankyou :good:.

It isn't actually mesh, it's a smalls tidy which is made from a cotton type material but it works perfect and because it's so flimsy the moss isn't so restricted. The hole's aswell are a fare old size so it will be better once the moss grows.

Have a look in Wilkinson's, i think there only about 99p, size is about 55x45cm.... just a matter of cutting to size needed :)

Ok great,
and best of luck with tank,it looks great.

im loving the tank its looking great =]

I like it Jake!

It'll look great when that moss grows through.

Be patient with the moss!! Might take a few months. That's always my problem haha.

It looks good! But one thing... have you renamed it since the center island is gone?? :)

Was having a read and wanted to mention that homebase do a fine green mesh, £5 a square metre and it's quite fine but moss will do great with it, it won't show through when the moss is a bit sparse as it's green and it gives you an idea of what it will look like grown in if ya squint when ya look at the tank. :)

Haha... i see you have also grown moss carpets before to ;)... im not the most patient of people either with plant growth but this tank is so easy and small to maintain that leaving it to it's own devices and just doing a water change a week and daily dosing is quite easy... eventually it will be stocked with shrimp but im really not in any hurry, it will take as along as it needs :).

As to the name, i haven't really thought about it, i guess now it's not centralised i guess the island feel as somewhat redundant... any suggestions of names?.

I try an avoid harder mesh, ive used these previously and because they sit on top of each other relatively tightly, ive found it can restrict the moss a little.... the stuff ive used is actually a cotton type material and is flimsy.... the moss sits in between the two pieces with no pressure... infact the moss doesn't really touch the upper side other then growth.... it should grow through the holes much easier because of this... well... that's the plan lol ;)

I used it with Riccia, moss and HC before and it was fine, it just sits lower and stops the cushion effect. I used stainless mesh underneath and the homebase stuff on top.

Couldn't agree more on the fact that it works well mate, this method just works better :good:.

The cushion effect is for a purpose... it allows more low, under mesh growth and movement for the moss.. which then allows better dense growth as it grows through and above it. The mesh style you've mentioned and which ive tried on countless occasions with good results has a tendency to only be able to grow threw the mesh in a single/couple of fronds because of the way it's compressed between the 2 sheets.... this method allows much more room for growth under the material which then allows far more fronds to grow through the mesh making it far denser and it does so much much quicker :good:.

The cushion or infact any of the mesh/material doesn't show once it fills out anyways.

The method you mentioned works well though and if it works well for others then of course do it that way but the results for me have been far better doing it this way (watch it fail miserably now haha ;)).

Nothing really to add apart from a couple of moss pearling pics... pearling happens about 4 hours after lights on. The carpet is slowly growing through the mesh, nothing spectacular just yet but it will soon enough :)

Sorry for the bad quality, i really need a new camera :grr:
