New Nano...'isle Of Anubis'

yeah embers are great, i kept some in my nano iwagumi, they school really well.

Would you say the tank was big enough?.... if so how many would you suggest?.

Any other micro fish suggestions? (if tank is big enough that is)

heres my 14 ltr nano, with embers...

i'll remove the vid if you don't want it in your thread.

I prefer them to micro ras's.

They look superb mate.... i may have found a fish to keep with my shrimp... cheers for that :).

Leave the vid on mate it's fine :good:

In need of some opinions.....

I love the way this looks but really in time i dont think the way it's laid out is practical, the plants will become to heavy for the way the twigs are stood and i think (well know) that the wood will quite often fall and im never going to get it to be stable enough to hold the weight.

So......

I have a few options.

1. Remove the anubius and tie it round the rocks rather than the sticks and use moss (which i have coming..xmas and weeping) on the sticks.

2. Leave it be and see how it goes even though i know it will do what im expecting it to do.

3. Rescape and do something different using the same hardscape and plants (maybe a mini jungle or iwagumi?).

Reasons why im unsure is this will be a shrimp tank and i really dont want to be constantly putting my hands in messing about with hardscape and having to put it back, i would rather just be able to trim it every week/month (growth dependant).

So what do you think guys and girls.... shame really because i quite like the layout but knowing it wont work long term is really twisting my arm to sort it earlier rather than later :/.

i like this nano as well, but if you need to rip down then rip it down. If it's not pushing ya buttons. A nano iwagumi is always a winner IMO. You could do a low tech moss iwagumi. :good:

No mate, nothing like that... i actually really like the scape, just thinking relatively longterm.... the sticks wont support the plants weight as they get bigger and i know they will just collapse under it and at some point im not going to be able to support them with these particular sticks.

The idea was keep the layout the same but move the anubias on to the actual island rocks and attach a moss (probably xmas or weeping) to the sticks.

The moss is easily managed through trimming whereas the anubias are gonna be much harder to maintain.

Hmmm..... really not sure, still undecided on doing the moss carpet aswell?.... would i lose the island feel with no appeal or would it actually make a nice view point.

Will have a good think and see how it goes and change at the weekend if i decide to go ahead and do anything.

Oh and the other thing was im setting up a new 60 litre within the next couple of weeks aswell and it will be a much more hand on approach to this one so i want this tank to be as less hands on as possible... another reason why i was thinking of the slight change around.

Right then, after thinking about what was best to do with this scape... i decided to just go ahead and have a play....

I finally decided i want a carpet but with the layout i really didn't think it would have looked right so after my mosses came today i thought i would scape it in a way i thought a carpet would fit.

At the moment it's only the rocks that have been scaped with the anubias removed from the branches and attached to rock, i then attached some weeping moss to the branches and secured the branches much better.

This scape now once grown in, will just need a trim every so often without to much hassle and none of the previous branches falling under the weight of the anubias.

I may add a small leaved plant around the base of the rocks but for the life of me i cant think of anything apart from HC or glosso.... these i would rather stay away from considering i wont be using pressurised co2 just carbon.

Any idea's?

I need to get some mesh for the moss carpet, ive decided to use xmas because i have it in abundance lol and i think it will fill out nice and quick and look quite nice as long as it's trimmed regularly. So the carpet will have to wait till the weekend till i can get out and find the mesh.

Anyways.... here are some updated pics... they aren't great and dont actually show it as nice as it looks in the flesh (well as nice as i think it looks anyways ;))......

Thanks for look and hope you like.

Comments are always welcome :)

Looking good Jake, looks like i will be planting my HC tonight and im only using carbon. If i fail and the HC dies i blame Ianho :D

I will be placing Staurogyne Repens around my rocks maybe have a look into this plant or something similar ?

Cheers LP, ive used just carbon in various other scapes and had good results with using it alone.... i think Steve is also only using excel/easy carbo and his HC is healthy and vibrant :good: ... Im sure you will be fine :)

The staurogyne will be a bit big for this scape, because there isn't much height to the scape the plant will just over power and the leaves are a little larger than wanted aswell.... i may give HC or glosso a try, will only be a small patch so nothing lost if it doesn't take :).

Thanks again guys :)

I'm using Flourish Excel in my little Shrimp tank, and my stem plants are growing brilliantly. I'm so tempted to have another go with HC in there.

I also use the normal Flourish & Flourish Trace in there.

James.

Hadn't been on for a few days and was looking forward to seeing the island you created but its all changed, still looks like the start of a nice scape but I did like it before with the desert oasis :)

Sorry mate but the end result would have caused more problems than it was worth.... if i had to re-sort out the scape constantly, i would have just thrown it out the window lol.... this way once grown in hopefully (touches wood) it will only need trimming which is all that i want to do. I can put more effort and time into the 60l that ive just setup then (journal to come :))

Right then update of the finished layout, now just a waiting game for it to grow out... with any luck it will do like i have planned :).

The sand apart from the island section was removed and replaced with cat litter, then ive used xmas moss for the carpet, you can see a couple of strands coming through the holes in the pic... with any luck the rest will follow suit ;).

Dosing regime from tomorrow (18/10/2011) .....

Mon, Wed, Fri..... 2ml macro
Tue, Thu, Sat..... 2ml trace
Sun..... 50% water change and 2ml of macro.

Easy carbo..... 0.5ml daily

Sorry for the bad quality.
