Jake's Nano

:good: sounds like a plan.....ish lol.

Hmmmm after all it may not be, just noticed hair algae on some of the HC, this i am putting down to the reduced flow with me having to take out the powerhead :( (it wasn't there before hand).... if i put it back in then it will just rip the umbrosum back up with the immense flow. I dont have smaller powerheads and the smallest that i have is a koralia nano 900lph which when i tried was more powerful than the cheapo resun one i recently took out .

I think this is going to be a losing battle, it may end up been a typical iwagumi with just a hc carpet, rocks and maybe some P.helferi.

Will have to have a think and see what going to be best, looks like im gonna have to put the powerhead back in after all.

This is why i dont do small nano's lol.

Didn't have to remove the umbrosum after all, it seems to be holding it's own this time with both the powerhead and the internal filter :). Ive given it a bit of a trim down to around 2 inches to encourage better growth.. now a waiting game  :fun:

Was gonna say once it roots you should be ok. :good:

I'm not sure tbh mate, the tank is roughly turning over 150x.... i agree once it's rooted it 'should' be ok... but as the stems grow taller there gonna be hit by the full force of the flow which may cause problems  ... will just have to see how it goes, hopefully it will work out fine but you never can tell lol.

Btw did the plants arrive today mate?

that will be interisting when it fills out. As you say a hedge effect will be different. Have you though of putting any Parva in there, you could get a nano Dutch going on in there. :good:

Not enough contrast for a Dutch scape.

Interesting idea, though, all the same family of plants. Could be cool. Agree, needs a couple of rocks or something. Don't touch anything and stop fiddling until the HC and HM take off.

I think Ian meant 'dutch' as in me add a lot more different plants to make the contrast :).

That's my problem me thinks , i like to tweak way to much and i get bored when things go slow (dont like slow haha), i will indeed now though, leave alone and let things take off and then go from there.

I'm liking the idea of adding a few more contrasting plants rather than hardscape (maybe go for the dutch sort of look), maybe s. repens in the middle section and a. reineckii either side of the umbrosum or in the middle of it? and maybe h. verticillata either side of the HC.

I do like the idea of planting all the same family, which others would you suggest Liz?....

I'm not entirely sure how the tank will end but im always open to suggestions :)

Any progress?? Got some rock in there yet?
I was looking at the arcadia arcpod 9w for my 14L thinking it might be overkill and you have the 11w for just 12L! Crimeny!
Looks good though although i was hoping you would go with the moss as i think that may be my next purchase

Hiya mate..... unfortunately this tank was closed down.... i've been having problems with my back and even this small tank on top of the others was getting a little bit to much.... i moved the plants to a 120l tank and they continued to grow really well but with my back getting ever worse i decided to close more tanks down and sold the plants off last week... just keeping two 120l tanks now.... a marine (currently in progress) and my L46 tank... hopefully by having just these 2 tanks my back with hold out and i can still enjoy the hobby.

I thought i had updated this thread with the closure... my brain just doesn't work like it used to lol ;)

Hope you have another way other than buckets to do water changes in that case, python perhaps? Pity the tank was closed though time to see a chiropractor lol

Yep, water changes arnt to bad, it the general moving in positions to clean glass, syphon sand etc etc.... it was a shame to see the tank closed but..hey ho things happen lol.

Ive had back problems for many many years... eases up from time to time...but now it's again starting to be much more often so another bout of physio is booked 'again'.

I'm sure it will eventually ease off again but for how long i dont know
