New Scape (60L).... Now .... ' Iwagumi Without A Twist '

Blimey, it really has grown! Nice work matey! :)

Cheers mate, i actually didn't notice myself just how much it had grown untill i looked at the before and after photo's.... it is only 8 days aswell between the two pics and tbh is seems alot longer (i honestly thought around 3 weeks)... so for 8 days, growth rates are infact much faster than i thought they would be.

looks nice and green! :good:

That's because they are green plants ;) :p.... but yeh cheers mate, there looking relatively healthy and that's always a good sign. Ive got a bit of diatoms on one the rocks which i really didn't expect considering the filters are very mature? but i'm sure it will clear soon enough and once i add a few otto's they should keep on top of it :).

Thanks again guys for the comments :)

No update of such.... I'm fetching 50 RCS on sat so i'm having to dumb the dosing down on the EC, not sure they will tollerate such a high dose.

I'm currently contemplating adding a load of stems and bogwood for more cover for the shrimp and turning this into a complete lowtech jungle scape, the only problem here is removing the current plants and rock which i'm really disappointed about :/ , unfortunately this is the only tank i have and would risk adding the shrimp to so i guess needs must

Ive removed the reflector off the light unit now due to me lowering the EC quite abit, this has given a simple 15w T8 light unit which the staury is really not liking.... this may be the first plant to go before it starts to go downhill.... blyxa is still fighting strong, ive had this in very low light previously with me dosing just once week and it still thrived, it just grew slower which was expected.

So if anybody is interested in some staurogyne and/or some blyxa for stems and/or moss, give me a shout. Also have the rock work in the tank and about another 6-8 smaller bits aswell for sale if anybody is interested in making an offer or swap for bogwood? (the rock is now confirmed to be mini landscape rock and not dragon stone :good:)

Well i went and fetched the 50+ cherries today, i decided instead of changing the tank to make more cover for the shrimp i would just remove the fish that would be the potential problem to them.

The tank is now running completely lowtech..... 15w with no reflector giving under 1wpg, no carbon or co2, and fert dosing is down to 5ml of each macro and trace once a week with a single 50% weekly water change, it will be interesting to see how the current plants fair with such a low tech approach.

Staury is still growing and spreading albeit slowly. The blyxa is still spreading, expected a little more height tbh but it is getting there slowly.

I think i will be doing a moss carpet in this now due to such low light, with any luck it should look quite nice :)

Will get some pics up over the next couple of day when the shrimp have settled down a bit.

That's pretty much it really

Good lord you will be over run within a few months. I started off with 20 and had over 400 five months later. They make rabbits look like conservative prudes.

LOL, yes they do breed well but i only paid £10 for the 50+ and they pretty much have a 60l tank to themselves ;), the bonus part about them is they are always easily sold when over run :).

Nice change Jake. Looking forward to the pics. I have a solitary cherry shrimp tank, it's great to watch. Very active indeed. Mine have multiplied, but not that quickly.

And yes, very easily sold on. LFS's sell them for like 2 or 3 quid each, so selling them for 70-80p each more or less guarentees that you won't be stuck with them for very long. :good:

Cheers mate, ive had various sized shrimp only tanks in the past with my largest being 240 litre i think it was.... this had about 5000+ shrimp of various species (non interbreeding species). I have to admit, i love shrimp tanks and find larger shrimp only tanks give so much more pleasure than smaller ones.

I may actually upgrade to a 125l after Christmas just for them and add some of my CRS, if i can make room i may go bigger :).

240 litre? 5000 shrimp?

Blimey!

Haha yeh, this is before i moved when i had my fish house :(.. 80% were just run of the mill cherries but they look stunning in huge groups in big tanks, if i can find a pic of the tank i will send it you :).

If i had the room i would do it again, unfortunately at the moment the largest i have space for would be a rio 125 which is a shame :( lol.

Would love to see a picture of it! :)

I will try mate, it was a couple of years back now and the pic must be on disc still somewhere.... somewhere is the problem though, ive moved twice since then  lol.

I will get round to some more pics of this aswell at some point lol
