Isn't your betta's hex tank 5 gallons? If that's your minimum, then isn't it somewhat lazy/careless of you to only keep your betta in the minimum sized tank if you could upgrade even a little? I do agree that 5 gallons is a good size for a betta (and is bigger than my idea of minimum sized...

^ +1 It's a perfectly reasonable thread, regardless of age. I've now had Marie for 6 months, and I estimate she was between 2 and 3 months old when I got her. Albert Fish, I've had for 3 months and I have no idea how old he is, but his ventral fins are extremely long if that's any indication...

Could have something to do with the different American accents as well. Like in some regions people pronounce egg "ayg" which does bother me, but I've always said "bay-tah" so I can't really complain heh. I've heard "ayg" for egg and "laygs" for legs in the Midwest and parts of the East Coast.

No preference, really. Around here LFS's are about the only way to acquire a betta besides ordering online. Every time I've bought one from a LFS it was just based on which fish I "connected" with the most, and which I felt sorry for (which is all of them really). Except with Alice...her...

Well here is the tank, it's just a Mini Bow 2.5, but the purple will look nice with the Alice in Wonderland theme I think. And, it seems to fit better into that corner than her smaller cube did, so yay. Edit: I actually took out the fluorescent cave to give her more room. Very cute video...

Got the tank. I'll have to order the mushrooms and the cottage, but we're off to a whimsical start, at least! I'll post a pics and a lil video as soon as I can get them uploaded :)

Thanks! Luna is lovely, and yes they look very similar. It's hard to tell from the picture but Alice does have a bit of red in her tail, also in her ventral fins. She has settled down since yesterday and I managed to get some decent pics without using the flash. I'll post em in a bit!

Yeah and I think I grabbed her at the right time too. Just as I took her off the shelf and turned around, a family with armfuls of new tank supplies came walking up and pointed right at her and said something, but in Spanish so I'm not sure what they said. I think they would have taken her...

A trip to Petsmart for some supplies resulted in this. I think most of you here can understand :P She's so pretty, her opaque white coloring immediately struck my eye. She reminds me of Nemo, but less shimmery. Yay :)

I don't think you need an airstone, as they go up to the surface to breathe. In general they do not care for the turbulence that an air stone would create. I agree a 5 gallon would be better if there will be room for it!

I realize that. I was giving each snail just a little sprinkle from a mashed up algae wafer each day, didn't seem like enough to account for all the poop, when compared to the amount of poop my fish make from the amount of food they eat. :blink: As far as eating leftover fish food, there is...

Plain Janes compared to some of the fish in this thread, but I took these today and thought I would share. Albert Fish posed all pretty for me today :) And Marie, hard to see as usual. But she is a really lovely girl. And definitely a girl.

Both of my snails are fine. Adder, the one I was afraid was hurt, was just being shy I guess. However, they poop A LOT more than I expected them to. Marie's snail, Mamba, really did a number on the bottom of the tank and made the water stinky. There was so much poop that I couldn't get enough of...

I just bought two of these snails today, Mamba for Marie's tank, and Adder for Albert's tank. Mamba is doing great and going to town in Marie's tank. However, Adder isn't doing much at all. He/she was difficult to remove from the bag and I was as slow and gentle as I could be to unstick it...

I seldom use the flash on my fishies. I don't know if occasional flash photography can hurt their eyes, but I would think a lot of it probably could. If your camera has a low-light setting you can use that but it will probably turn out grainy. On my digicam I can set the shutter speed to allow...

I think I have the same tank as you. I made some changes since the last time I posted any pics of Albert Fish and Marie. Changed the decor a bit and switched the Whisper filters out with Lee's Discard-A-Filters, which I have no intention to discard, but rather to rinse and refill as needed...

Ok, well, this is essentially what I saw when I searched for my video of Albert, plus a few videos that were added since that time. Even though more videos show for that day now, the fighting videos and sunfish video are still on the same page as my Albert video.
