could be any number of problems, most likely unclean water. if you have any melafix, or some kind of fish remedy, add it to your tank. other then that do water changes and if you have any salt or stress coat, add that as well.

my ph and alkalinity are pretty low, what raises alkalinity? i can get some ph up or something, but it seems like everyday i'm out buying a new bottle of something. no fish loss by the way

Its not impossible to mix those fish at my store we have a universal sump system for all tanks, new world and african. deads in those areas have been almost non existant.

its almost impossible to not get snails on your plants. barbs have been known to eat snails as well, they are a tab bit milder then a chiclid.

i'd advise against it. barbs love to pickon things with flowing fins. and betas also do the same. in my opinion i'd say don't do it.

well, normally, as soon as you screw the pump into the main power filter its supposed to make omnious noises, but there not going to make a filter thats going to break if it dosen't have water in it for only 1 min. fully install it and allow it to suck up water and see what happens, you'll know...

colder water is better then warmer water for fish. keeps their metabolisms down and promotes longer life.
