Reducing Picture Size

I am trying to reduce the size of my pictures to use as an avatar on this site i am new to computing and don't know how can anybody help?

open up paint and reduce the canvas size by like 50%

there you go, there are a lot of pinned items, around the forum, its well worth doing a search of the forum,

lol RadioHitandRun if i reduce my pics by 50% i still get a 9mb pic, reduction depends on original file size!

thanks to you both think i took a massive picture with my digital camera to start with,six sheets of a4 paper so i will start with it smaller and now have a better idea how to reduce the size thanks to you
