Hello, after getting the bug for tropical fish I realised I wanted a larger tank, I have just bought this and It came with an external filter (without instructions) I took it back and the helpful guy at my lfs made it up for me and advised I fill the filter first so a vital part in the filter did not become damaged.
This is now done, I turned on the filter but it is just making a kind of churning noice. I was wondering if this is normal and how long does it normally take for the ?pressure? to start intaking water and begin the cycle.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Regards.

well, normally, as soon as you screw the pump into the main power filter its supposed to make omnious noises, but there not going to make a filter thats going to break if it dosen't have water in it for only 1 min.

fully install it and allow it to suck up water and see what happens, you'll know if something is wrong, you'll be able to tell.

straight after your reply i plugged in the filter , it is making ominous sounds, but there is no water running through the pipes as yet.

How long on average should it take an external filter to start taking in water?

Thanks.
