Hi I am just starting up a new tank, got it all set up with plants and a piece of morpani wood (soaked for a couple of days) I left this all running for a couple of weeks.

I had noticed though a few days ago a milky slime and what looked like a small patch of feathery fungus on the wood so I removed it and scrubbed it down and put it back in the tank. The plants have a few brown spots but I assume this is agle.

On saturday I put the ammonia in to start the fishless cycle, I looked at the tank and there seemed to be a small patch again of milky slime on the wood, along with some yellow blobs. Then to my horror a small creature about 3mm long walked out on the wood, it had a long thin body six legs and long antenanne and was yellow!

I took the wood out but its kinda freaked me out!

Now do I need to scrap the whole tank contents :( or put in some anti fungle stuff? Should I scrap the wood altogeather, I wondered about soaking it in a weak miltons soloution? I don't want to put in fish once the cycle is done and find them all dying from fungs and little creatures eating them up.

Any help greatfully received

Here is a picture of the tank before I took the wood out, but no pictures of the freaky stuff.

I am at work so dont have exeact stats but roughly

PH 7.6, Amonia 5pmm, Nitrite .25 Nitrate 0, 170L tank, Juwel panaroma 100, Juwel internal filter. Substrate Flourite and gravel, selection of plants from greenline.

Thanks very much

don't worry, i wouldn't be to concenred. best thing to do is wait it out, thats pretty much the only thing you can do.

from your water quality readings it seems that your tank is on its way to being cycled properly, the strang yellow creature however, a pic would have been nice....

Thanks, I will give the wood a boil, sorry about no pic of the creature i was staring at it in a sort of glazed way  and it wandered under the wood, I seemed to come to my senses then and whipped the wood out, I have looked over the wood since but havn't seen any signs, and not noticed anything in the tank since.
