    Water Change Tragedy

So sorry that it happened to you! But as long as he didn't "break" anything, he'll be ok as soon as he recovers from the shock. I have the same problem when I'm cleaning my fry tank but the good thing is that they're so small, they ususally don't get stuck and somehow manage to swim out just fine.

    New Tank Diy?

I'll have to say, the alterations you did, make the tank look a lot better, not only with it's surroundings, but it also brings out the color of the inhabitants. Great job!!! :hyper:

    Dyed Fish

I've never even heard about dyed fish until reading this post. But it's horrible for anyone to think that's it's ok to do that to a fish! It's having the same frame of mind which would think it's okay to go about dying babies to fit the exact coloring the parent would like. DISGUSTING!

    Buying Fish Online From .....

My fiance has purchased fish from them and they do seem to be quite alright. They're delivered in a styrofoam box which seems to pretty much protect them from all outside stimuli which my shock or frighten them during shipping. And from what I know, they ship overnight so the fishes aren't in...

    To all snail keepers!

The only "hole" in my tank hood is where the pump is and it faces the kitchen (it's on the "bar" between the kitchen an the living room) and if the snails crawled out I would find them there but I haven't found any as yet, so hopefuly they don't leave

    regular pond snails

Well, if you add salt to the water, you have to make sure that no solid pieces are left on the gravel where the snails crawl because that can kill them. It's better to desolve it in a container of water then add it to the tank. U'll definitely need plants because it's fresh food for them and...

    just curious...

Yep, the shedding of the shell is normal and I also found out that the crabs usually eat a portion of the shell which helps with calcium. So if your crab did that, then she proabably doesn't need any suppliments. But check online to be 100% sure about it. Google's an awesome tool for finding...

    Do fish sleep?

Yes they do sleep, some "lay" at the bottom when it's dark and go to sleep while others hide in various places. I don't know if they get bored but it's always good to have plants, driftwood, centerpieces, etc. for them to hide and "play" in.

    question about shrimp and snails

I keep ghost shrimp and the key to their survival, I've found, is to have lots of plants and rocks/wood/ornaments in which they can hide. Mine have almost doubled in size and they've been breeding as well. Most of the newborns will get eaten by other tankmates but those who survive will grow to...

    Fishkeeping Today

It is amazingly theraputic if the fish are healthy and happy, but if one becomes ill or dies, I feel crushed. Kind of like a mother loosing her child (but on a smaller scale of course)

    Aquarium water

I have to suck on mine too, but always manage to move it away from my mouth and into the bucket before it gets too close. Just keep an eye on the water moving through the tube and when it's about a finger length away from your mouth, place your thumb on the hole and put it into the container...

    Musical tanks?

I usually use a bowl (it's been designated for fish only) with water from it's current aquarium and slowly add a little water from it's new home until I think it's about adjusted to the water temperature (if there's any change), then I add it and keep an eye on it to make sure it's new...
