OMG can't believe how many different fish they are dying inc albino corys, oscars, this is going way too far..... I'd only ever seen the glassfish before! Not impressed whatsoever
I agree that dyeing fish is totally wrong. However, we must remember that there are PLENTY of people out there who are willing to buy them. If no one bought them, no one would make them, right?
I work at a pet store, and over and over, I get requests for "painted" fish.
It sickens me.
here's what I did about it. I had a speech class at college so I wrote about the process of dyeing fish. It is graphic and I took some artistic license with it but the gist of the process is pretty close. It's not that people don't know that it's not natural it's that they think it's done with a paintbrush or something. I'm serious. Most people I've talked to about it really think the ink is painted on or applied in some other none harmfull fashion. Here's a link if you want to see it.
I see these types of fish at a lot of LFS in my area. I myself have never liked them. We had a thread on another fish forum I go to about them. It was a heated debate. I was disgusted at the members that thought it was funny or cool to have these kinds of fish. I really hated the people supporting dyed fish from some of the sponsors. I loathed the fact that they would stoop to anything to make a buck. One particular sponsor justified the practice of dyeing fish to "supply and demand." If people buy them why not sell them attitude.
