i asked this in the invertabrea section but no replys so im gonna ask her instead....

fist of all ive been trying to keep ghost shrimp in my 20 gal(1 3 spot gourami, 5 TBS and 1 rainbow shark) i dont know if they die and get eaten or if they are just eaten alive, they just disapear....anyway what conditions do they need just incase if they are dying. next ive also been trying to get pond snails to breed in the same tank to feed my puffer but they just wont and all i have now is a about 10-15 larger ones.....they have grown a quite bit since i put them in there. finnaly in my ten gal goldfish tank(see the one in the topic i posted tittled "ick") once i have it back to normal i was wondering if apple snails will eat brown slimy algea if so can i add 1 or 2 to that tank.

well i dont know about the shrimp but i do know about the snails snails asexualy breed which means they dont need a partner to mate. thy can have babies on there own i would suggest googleing it on how to breed pond snails

Some snails are indeed asexual such as the Malaysian Trumpet snail which produced live born young without any need for a mate, but common pond snails are not asexual, they require two snails to mate to produce eggs.
But they are hemaphrodites so each individual is both male and female. To breed them, any two snails will do the job

Apple snails also need to mate to breed but their gender is fixed. you need a male and a female to get eggs.

I think that your shark is eating your shrimp.

i guess ill probly give up shrimp....even though i can get em for only 30 cents each. as far as th pond snails i droped in about 30 little baby one and now i see only about 10-15 much larger ones. they obviously are getting food im just not seeing any egg sacs anywhere. with the apple snails i wanted to know if they will eat brown slime algea if so can i add 1 or 2 to my goldfish tank once its back under control(right now i have 1 sarrasa commet, 1 shubunkin and 1 fantail, :-( sadly the fantail isnt looking good and i also lost another fantail yesterday :byebye: ) i want to know this particularly becuase i once had an apple snail that always had my guppies pecking at its antaneas and it eventualy died and i want to make sure my goldfish wont do that(they once goubled up around 25 ponds snails in one night!)

I keep ghost shrimp and the key to their survival, I've found, is to have lots of plants and rocks/wood/ornaments in which they can hide. Mine have almost doubled in size and they've been breeding as well. Most of the newborns will get eaten by other tankmates but those who survive will grow to adulthood.

I've also had two gold snails for about 3 weeks and they've already reproduced. In order to encourage this, you need to lower your water level so there's space on the glass between the hood and the water for them to lay their eggs. You also need to keep your lights on for at least 6 hours a day to encourage the eggs to hatch(seeing as they need the warmth).

luckily i just found 1 ghost shrimp. :D sorry if i got u confused i meant breeding pond snails. i just need to know if the apple are ok to go with goldfish and if they will eat brown slimy algea.

Yeah, under my one rock, all four of them hang out or they hang out on the big amazon plant. Today however, my new male Krib (never had them before) made a snack out of the biggest one and the fiddler crab finished it off.
