Think of it this way; they sell you fish unsuitable for a small tank, you get attached to it, find out it needs bigger tank to be happy, you go back buy bigger tank. Shop smiles.

To be honest, don't really have a clue mate. I was guessing it was the wood tannins dropping the pH as it wasn't soaked before hand, just put straight into the tank.

I know tannin in wood can drop pH but didn't expect a drop this big, the wood isn't exactly huge either. Tank before wood; 7.6 Tank after wood; 6.4 Tap water today: 7.0 (sometimes it's lower) What would be a dangerous level for it to drop to for my green terrors? Guessing small more often...

Should be okay mate, i've had alot of gear on stands like that; studio speakers, dual screens ect. You could put a leg in the middle underneath to make it a little better, if you was that worried.

I hold my ammonia test tube in front of the card and under a high watt spot light, it looks yellow then. Under poor lighting it has a tint of green like it's sitting between 0 and 0.25 so i wouldn't worry if that's what your reading looks like!

If it was my tank, this is the stocking id be asking about on here; Bolivian Ram (Pair) Harlequin Rasbora (6) Some type of Tetra (6) Smaller species of Cory (6) Clown Pleco, maybe? Not sure if that's too much for a 165L tank though, that's why id be asking on here :lol:

Looks strong compared to what my 240L is standing on, id personally just go for it but keep away from heavy tank decor until you feel it's safe enough.

My male green terror doesn't each much either just spits out pretty much everything that i try, including brine shrimp :blink: Hikari cichlid gold worked for me, prawns for treats. You could try not feeding for a few days, sometimes works but didn't for me.

I was thinking of making a platform out of egg crate to do something like this, would also provide a cave too. Could be a bit of work to get it looking just as nice though.

Rocks from the river are ment to be safe too, after a good clean.

Alot of users on here get API master test kit from ebay, £20. I agree with fishprotector, that stocking will not work out too well long term unless you upgrade the tank.

What about rehoming the 'bully' and then waiting for the other to recover? from what i've been reading the 'bully' oscar is what is causing problems for the other?

Not sure on this ammo lock stuff but some larger water changes would of done enough of a job to lower ammonia. I'd cut back on feeding and keep the water changes going until the ammonia hits 0 again.

Fish suffering from internal parasites can be identified by the fecal discharge, which is usually white in color and appears as long transparent trailing string. Some might even show more severe symptoms with a sunken or bloated belly and usually the fish often become lethargic with huge drop...

2ft is too small for a rainbow shark & 4ft is recommended, not sure with the shrimps though.

Sounds to me like internal parasites but i'm pretty clueless on these things myself, just going off a similair thing that happened with a gbr of mine and a few peoples answers to help me. Hopefully someone with some more experience will come along and help you too :good:

Never used external heaters myself but have just recently been looking into them for my 20g, not sure how good they are but apperantly they'll slightly lower your filters water flow though.
