At first i thought my GBR had just caused itself some damage and the wound was healing over but now i've noticed a few 'white spot' blister type things around the face area? kind of hard to explain really.

I'll try and get a picture but i can't do that until tomorrow as someone is borrowing my camera.

It could be nothing and just a wound healing up but it's better to be safe then sorry.

Thanks guys :good:

Chances are, they'd just be covering a healing wound, like a scab :) keep a close eye on it though

I did think that at first but not too sure now as they're not all that close to the place i'd thought was just a wound healing.
Another way i could explain them is like when you get a splinter but imagin white wood SLIGHTLY sticking out

Other that this he's perfectly fine, eating and has even more colour then he used too.

If its something that is sticking out, it couldn't be a type of parasite latched onto the fish could it? Just a thought..

Snap NBTG, just what i was going to say!

I have seen a LOT of rams with it, just impossible to get a clear photo of...

But if you google picturs of hole in the head disease...

And also, if its not a hole or pit, doesnt mean its somethnig different, a fungal infection of the hole would make it stick out... etc

My long fin black skirt tetras get little calcium deposits on their fins that are harmless. Looks like someone got a paint splatter on the fin.

Just did some researching on hole in the head and from the pictures it looks a little different but from the information, i've got a feeling it might be  .
I read that it starts off like a 'pimple' before it turns into the 'hole' part? if that's true, im pretty sure this is what im dealing with.

This is similair to what my ram is looking like, although as above they're more 'pimples' then holes.

Definately think you want to:

-Check your water parameters, quality issue or pH/KH being too high for rams lowers immune system...

-Check feeding, maybe its just my experience but have seen a lot of the larger cichlids on poor quality or wrong diet get hole in the head, however clean the tank is.

-Treat with a Hexamita treatment, usually aimed at discus... ESHA Hexamita is a good treatment...

pH:6.8 to 7
Ammo: 0
NitrIte: 0
NitrAte: 20

Roughly 50% water changes every 5 to 7 days
Little over a year ago i did have a big ammonia spike due to a filter dying on me, lost alot of fish apart from the ram & a rainbow shark.

hikari cichlid gold, tetra pro colour crisp, prawns, brine shrimp.
Nutrafin max flake was its main diet for a while in my 'noobie' days though.

Will plants be okay with this too? i've just found some Octozin by waterlife in my cupboard that says it'll treat hole in the head, any good though?

Thanks for helping out too, everybody :good:

Try the octozin, i never had much luck with it but if you catch it early on, it might work!

The esha treatment is ok with plants etc too;..
