want quite a big to go in my new tank in the new year, whats the chances of getting one from a garden center? they got quite a selection and not bad prices compared to what they charge in the LFS, I hav eheard you can do test with vinegar, is it any type of vinegar, malt or white?

Cheeper to go down to cornwall and get a few from the beaches!
Well thats what i did in the end when i went on holiday :fun:
Mind you they do need a very good clean ect.

Go the garden center route. A list of commonly found rocks can be seen here.

Even cheaper is find a paving+fencing/garden landscaping supplier that sells rockery stone. Found a good one nearby and got a bootful of big chunks of granite for my new Tanganyikan tank for £45. To make smaller bits I just broke up the chunks with a club hammer and cold chisel.

Got mine from here: http://www.eakhurstfencingandpaving.co.uk/ helpful guy, was able to tell me what rocks were "fish safe" too.

I have a huge 25kg "rock" i had in my 4ft until i changed the scape. Its about a foot wide, and 10 inches deep and tall. Rounded shape, with bands of light/dark grey, very nice looking, but doesnt fit with the new "scene". Its been in a tank for months and not changed the pH at all, and has no metal inclusions. You can have it for free if you want to come ang get it, or i can take it to work in Fleet, since its halfway. Ill post a pic when i get home, or can send via MMS if you PM me a number to send to.

Hope this helps.
