I caught all the fish in a pet store today. All of them. I handed them off to a friend who bagged them up, then we put them in styros. My dislike of kuhli loaches is back - they are fast little %^%$%$#.

And so, our local fish store heads into a new location, with the help of about 20 people who brought trucks and trailers, and worked hard. An independent LFS can be the heart of a fishkeeping community, and the community knows it. It was a solid part of the day, but well spent. The store is hanging on by the skin of its teeth, and their location had been bought by a numbered corporation from 1500 km away, who immediately jacked the rent up.

I hope they can make a go of it in the new location.

So when i tore my 10 down it had ~ 25 pangio sheffordi; and i though gee no problem catching them in an empty 10; well those little suckers covered themselves up in the 1/8 inch substrate and i spent hours chasing them - eventually i just pored the whole thing into a bucket and the bucket into the new aquarium (90 gallons) because it was too painful catching them. everytime i cornered one it would quickly dig a tunnel and appear on the other side of the aquarium.

Did two tank water changes. Then went ice fishing.

Strange. Went from tropical waters to frozen waters in the matter of an hour.

Caught no target fish. That is why it is fishing not catching. We did jig up countless perch and kept two dozen that were about 12 inches long. All fileted and packed away for May.

Note on ice fishing. I am not a fan. I do not like the cold, nor walking on water. I think I am glad we did not catch target fish because that involved leaving the shanty and hand hauling a fish while exposed to the weather. I tell my brother these things at the end of each annual adventure. He just says cannot beat the company though. In that he is right.

At least the perch are amenable to being dragged from the water while we sit in the shanty which my brother refers to as the arctic mansion.

Arranging Steely Dan's "Mock Turtle Song" for the Badgerling's high school production of Alice in Wonderland. The ensemble consists of two singers (the mock turtle and the aforementioned Badgerling playing the Gryffin), accompanied by a clarinet, a trumpet, a euphonium, a tuba, a xylophone, and a marimba. Suitably weird enough to fit the material. I like it.

that should sound pretty good with that lineup if they can nail it. I'll have to admit I'd never heard that Steely Dan song, thought I knew all their tunes.

So I'm going to have a listen to Steely Dan, something I never thought I'd say again. I have to hear that song and imagine it.

It's -17 out there with a slicing wind. That's okay, because these days are becoming rarer, and it's just a pause in the melting. By Wednesday, we'll be going in the right direction again. So today, a minimal number of water changes if the oxygen saturation in the tap water is high, and maybe a first sighting of fry from 5 dwarf Cichlid spawns. My Nanochromis splendens lost their first brood, but both pairs spawned in different tanks on the same day, and I have a wild and two F-1 pairs of Parananochromis at around the same time sequence.

I'm planning the garden. I want to incorporate water changes into tomato growing, and tomato growing into shading daphnia culturing. I read an article where a guy was talking about making his own deer fences using monafilament fishing line, as the deer hated touching the line they couldn't see. Since I only want to run this set up in a small area of the yard snugged up against the fishroom exterior wall, I'm thinking I may try that.

The deer come right up to the windows and look in at me. so I have to do something. Plants in front of the windows outside could cool the room too, as it gets southern sun.

Here you go. Imagine it with a marimba and tuba doubling on the bass line, the clarinet, baritone, trumpet, and xylophone handling the syncopated chords, and two girls trading off on the singing, one of them keeping the beat with a pair of mascaras. I'm diggin' it.

@GaryE I like your idea of combining the daphnia and tomatoes. Mrs. Badger wants to get more into these indoor hydroponic systems, but they seem like a waste to me because you can't access the water to put critters in them. So I've been lobbying to turn the Badgerling's 29g Apisto tank into a mini Inle biotope with some veggies growing on a floating island.
Using a hydroponic system to grow daphnia? Tell me more!

Well, I took some pictures of historical buildings from Mococa a few days ago.

In the late 19th century, the small city received mainly immigrants from Italy.
