My ice fishing trip has been canceled today due to severe weather at the lake we were going to do to. Will go Sunday. So ....

Today is what we call dog care day.

Unfortunately, Linda will not join this trip, her back and ribs would not enjoy the ride.

Around the first of each month is special pet day. First, we will drive 35 - 40 miles to a butcher shop that back in the day we used to smoke our bacon and hams by bartering. We no longer raise our meat but still go once a month to purchase fresh beef heart, tongue and calve liver. These are used along with beef Roast, Pork Roast, Boneless chicken, white rice, potatoes, peas, carrots, and green beans to make a month's supply of dog and cat food. Appropriate Vet suggested supplements are added of course. We will make a month or so supply on Monday, unless Linda makes while I am ice fishing tomorrow.

After picking these up the dogs and I will then head 45 miles to their favorite dog park. It is far from home but is a beautiful place with the LA Chute river on one border. The place is full of nice toys and "playground" things that both dogs love. We discovered the park quite by accident several years back and both dogs remember it. About 5 miles away they get rambunctious in the car and very excited. The town even removes snow from some areas of the park. While there I will bounce some baits on the river bottom just for fun. After we will head home, stopping at Micky D's for the dogs monthly Happy Meal. Then back home, another 65 or so mile drive.

What we do for the fur creatures.

@anewbie I find it very satisfying, dealing with the problem of too many plants. :) What is a matten filter?
Here is the picture annotated note that you don't actually see the python in the tank though there is a reflection off the glass:

The sponge is approx 3 inches thick and the gap is around 2 1/2 inches so 5 1/2 inchs of 48 inches are lost to never never land:

I finished assembling my new little rack for my two 5 gallons, it's just enough to install both tanks at a height that will be serviceable and have a good view from the sofa...

I made 2 shelf with 1/2 inch thick good old Maple Plywood, that I had leaning on a wall for at least a decade... It wasn't warped the slightest.

I have cut the corners to have a nice flat fit in... And a channel in both to be able to pass and organize electric cables and air tubes.

I stained them deep oak and will give them a good water seal tomorrow...

It's going to look pretty nice... I think... :)

We booked are trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons for after Labor Day. I’m excited.
Hope you enjoy! :) Avoid the food places that a "tour guide" wants you to go. Ask the locals where to eat. Food will probably be better and less expensive. Actually this is pretty much true anywhere you travel.

If you chance to cross the hill into the Wind River Basin, look me up and I'll buy you a cup of coffee. (I can just about afford that if I start saving now)

I'm fighting another one of my monster shoulder-neck-headaches today. They've been really bad lately. I suspect it's stress. Despite that, I got the final layer of sinew on what I hope will be next year's hunting bow, if I get to hunt next year. It's juniper heartwood, backed with elk sinew, and covered with a bullsnake skin. Should be beautiful, if nothing else.

Going to a performance of Donizetti’s opera, Maria Stuarda today. It a melodrama depicting the conflict between Queen Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of the Scottish ultimately leading to the beheading of Mary.

I’m going to get going on my water changes and aquarium maintenance starting today . I’ve completely ignored it since my wife passed away . I just completely lost track of everything . My whole routine went haywire but I’ll pick up the pieces and get back on track . Things look okay and the fish look healthy and that’s probably because of my very light stocking levels . It’s only been three weeks since my last water changes so nothing is beyond repair .
