Bitcoin or Money?

it is not the democrats, it is not the republicans it is the politicians. And they are only in power because we vote these mostly idiots into power. So, if you feel like your life is going down the 🚽 just remember that you voted for it. How much time do you spend researching the candidates for whom you vote? How well do you examine their past records?
Only with our employers and politicians, who can both lie to you, is there the notion that there are no legal consequences. This is criminal and should be punished. For some reason we have accepted that all politicians lie and businessmen too, and this is socially acceptable. Yes, we are to blame for accepting this behavior of unaccountability and fraud.

Ahhh, guys... I sort of like following this thread but this is starting to sound a little political which will end up with the thread closed. We have to remember that politics and religions are not allowed and that is with good reason...

Well I have not talked politics except to say that almost all politicians are elected by we the voters. If we do not want to spend the time to think about it all before were and just pull the same levers every time, then we are responsible for whomever wins. If we elcect candidate A, we are the ones who put that person into office. So, whatever those people are able to do, good or bad, they can only do it because we voted to put them there.

That is how democracy works. The problem is in America the % of the people that could whoch do so in a presidential election is typically in the high 50% range sometimes if gets into the 60s. https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/statistics/data/voter-turnout-in-presidential-elections

This has nothing to do with political parties at all not who may have won or lost. it has to do with you and me and our fellow citizens. basically 40% don't vote. If you do not vote then you have no say. If you choose not vote you really have no right to complain about who won or lost.

There is a big different between talking about specific candidates and the their views are, as opposed to talking about those who have the right to vote but doing so ot not. How is that politics?

I have purposely refrained in this thread from commenting on any party or candidate or elected official in any capacity from dog cather to president and everybody in between. Had I done so I would expect the thread to be closed and any such comments deleted.

edited for typos- I may be the world''s worst typist despite having been doing for 65 years. I still "hunt and peck."

When one joins a discussion, it's never safe to assume others think as you do. It's one of the problems with ideologies. Eventually, someone says something that bumps up against taboos or hits a political nerve, and the results are interesting.

Bitcoin is a very political subject, deregulation is as well - the two are inextricably linked. What facts about history are polite to mention vary from country to country. I get drawn into threads I would normally not read if I didn't have to moderate, and it's very easy to forget what's taboo in other countries. There are things we take for granted that aren't. That will always show in these threads.

My rule of thumb is if we get into Party names, or specific policies of political leaders, then we've wandered into someone's national politics and that's off the table. If we start to discuss wars, we'll have one. As long as people keep the ideas general, then it's case by case. But we really should stick to fish and aquarium related topics. It's hard to. When I logged in yesterday, 6 of the first 10 topics in what's new had nothing to do with aquariums. We're social creatures.

If wwe turn any conversation or o[inon into politics as opposed to what it really is we just end up being closed minded. A good or bad idea is such whether you aree on one side of politics or the other.

These days more and more I keep seeing things as degoned in that well known line for Forrest Gump= "Stupid is as stupid does." Ie is a very rare thing indeed when anything great has been discovered by those with closed minds.

When a doctor can save your life do you refuse his treatment because you first need to know their political views?

Her you go folks-O remember listening on the radio in a car when we sent people tp the moon. So I ask you this, without using your phone etc. what was the political affiliation of: Neil Armstrong, Cuss Aldrin or Michael Collins. What weas the political affical of all the men and wwomen who made that trip possible? What should that even matter?

If you think that itdid or does matter, then maybe Forrest was talking about you? What do you think?

I am dropping the mike on that one........

I think there is a place for everything but not everything in some places.

Being resistant to some subjects in some places is not a sign of closed mind unless that resistance extends to all places.

I like boundaries. I suppose that makes me old fashion to a degree. I hope it does not also make me close minded.

Let's suppose you have 1 million dollars. You can put it into a bank (or brokerage firm) or you can buy Bitcoin. Now my question is which of the two different assets do you think in today's world is easier to steal from. you? I am pretty sure hackers can get the Bitcoin with greater ease than anybody can rob a bank.

And then in the digital age many folks never carry money. I always have a few hundred in on me. I have credit cards but no smart phone. I wonder how most of the world would function if a serious solar flair suddenly hits us and electronics are not working. Or even worse what if an enemy nation manages to take down the internet here for some time?

I have this strange thought every now and then about self driving cars. When things reach the point that we no longer drive and our cars do it all. What if an enemy nation gets control over the systems that actually does the driving, maybe just the GPS part, and they start arranging for all the cars to drive into each other, the ocean, rivers etc. So there you are in the self-driving car doing 70 mph headed for a brick wall and no way to stop it?

Personally, I am pretty sure I will never go anywhere in a self driving vehicle. They scare the poop out of me.

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Trans Atlantic AIrways first flight totally controlled by an AI. There is no pilot, there is no co-pilot. Years of development and testing have been conducted to insure this will be a safe flight. As we are taking off we want to assure each and every one of you that nothing can go wrong, can go wrong, can go wrong, go wrong, wrong ..........
i don’t know if this has already been said but if it was possible i would use the million dollars and buy something that doesn’t depreciate, such as gold or other precious metals. bitcoin, stocks, and all things similar are all a huge risk, either you go big or you go home, and it’s kind of a form of gambling.
