I'm intrigued to know what the consignment is!

My plumbing stuff, which 1 key part was out of stock, am frantically trying to find somewhere that stocks the 3/4" to 1/2" reducer I ordered. My 30lb bag sugar fine aragagonite sand (which is here), and silicon, which is also out of stock, Grr.

I can get a small tube silicicon its the reducer that is holding me up.

Got one, it was so I could use 1/4" larger pipe on the Durso than the rest of the plumbing is. When I looked at Durso's (Richard Durso's site) it seemed one key point at quietening them was to have this reduction in size of the pipework. If I did not need the reduction, does not matter. Only thing is, is that it is a compression fitting and not a solvent weld. Will have to change this when the proper one arrives, although I may not bother, can always hide the fitting with rock. I also managed would you believe from a small DIY shop in Garstang, to get a large tube of proper Aquarium sealant.

Hope I made sense.

To be brutally honest with you T, it didn't make a blind bit of difference to mine noise wise. The single pipe system is a noisy affair per se.
I have a 25mm into a 20mm and it still gurgles somewhat. Its not the water its the amount of air being dragged down the tube with it
There are ways, I find an Eheim rigid pipe strainer does the trick for me on the Nano

How much was the Aragamax sand and where did you purchase it from

It was £16.99 from UDA, however there is a surcharge for delivery and delivery is quite expensive anyway. Only reason I went with it was so I could get everything delivered not being able to drive myself and Andrew working 7 days a week at the moment. If you are ordering a decent amount however I believe delivery becomes free.

Pretty important that I get the tank set up asap now as besides the holiday 6-20th June, on Tuesday I was told (apart from crutches and back problems) that I have Ulna Tunnel Syndrome (similar to carpal tunnel but other nerve) in my right arm now (had left done last year), the Surgeon is going to operate in the next 6-8 weeks which means I will not be able to use the right arm for at least 2 months and it is going to be a nightmare using crutches or walking sticks when this happens.

If it was not for all of that, I would have got the sand elsewhere. Also the reason why I want the majority of the tank set up this weekend, hence me going out and buying the compression fitting.

Anyway after the tale of my woes

Nothing is solvent welded into place yet, I want to make sure everything is ok first.

I have two options for the output to the sump, either straight down pipework as in Picture 1, or a 45 degree elbow bringing the pipework ito the sump at an angle, as in Picture 2. Which do you think would be better??

Any advice appreciated.

Gee your medical woes sound pretty serious there T. Hope everything goes well for you.
In regards to the plumbing
I don't think it will mater that much T, but you will need to drill the cap and add an airline with a tap/clamp to adjust the air going down the Durso.

I have already drilled a hole, was not sure what size to go for, so at the mo it is a small one. I also bought 2 end caps incase I mucked up one of them.

So I need to drill a bigger hole and insert airline, or should I wait and do that after it is running?? It said on the Durso mod site to keep drilling it larger till you get it right. Should I just go with the airline mod instead??

I think I will use the 45 degree and bring it in at an angle if it makes no difference. The other thing is how far down into the sump should the pipework go??

Gee your medical woes sound pretty serious there T. Hope everything goes well for you.

Thanks and yes it is a woe, I rang the Travel Insurance company on Wednesday, they won't cover the existing medical conditions as get this, I am "Medically Loaded", luckily physio says I can use a Tens machine all the way through the flight. I also have a wheelchair booked for at the airport. Pretty damn sad for 30 yr old, sounds more like I am 60, and all down to this machine hitting me. Would not have need the op yet if it were not for the elbow crutches, Grr.

And I thought I had it bad!
Sure have a busy schedule ahead of you T. At least your aquarium gets your head away from all that turmoil and I expect it gives you a little bit of release.
You can drill and fit an airline coupled to a gang-valve which you can adjust the threaded screw to add or shut of the air intake.

Reet, off to raid the other halfs shed and find the right sized drill bit (could be difficult as he never puts them back in the box and it drives me mad), already got the drill out having used it earlier. I have even managed to hoover my mess up whilst using the crutches.

Have deburred all the pipe pieces now and given the ends a sanding so they are nice and smooth, just need cleaning and solvent welding.

How far down the Durso does the airline need to go??
