    Betta with swollen tummy :(

I had something similar happen to my first red VT male (which has passed on). At first I thought it was constipation, as his belly was quite swollen like the picture you show (did not really notice a bent spine in him though). Then I noticed the scales were protruding (like a pinecone), and it...

    What a rescue

Hey FishEnthusiast, If you're near a Big Al's, either you're on the West coast or East coast, right? The online price is in Canadian $, however, I notice the instore prices are sometimes $1.00-$2.00 more than the online price. If you're on the West coast, there is a place called Kind Ed Pet...

    What a rescue

Hello FishEnthusiast, Not sure where abouts in Canada you're are, but here's a link to a place that sells a type of Black Water extract in Canada (if you can't find any @ your lfs). http://bigalsonline.ca/catalog/product.xml...ategory_id=2807 Nice rescue effort, and glad to see they are doing...

    My Betta Won't eat

You can buy a valve controller and connect it from your airpump to the airline tubing, if you wish to still use the air pump at a lower level. http://bigalsonline.ca/catalog/product.xml...ategory_id=3977

Almost had a heart attack today

You can use plastic canvas sheets (7 count should be fine, and is what I use in my 10 gallon tanks), and cut to size. Here's a link that came up when I went to google.com and typed in plastic canvas sheets: http://www.craftking.com/crafthtml/plastic_canvas.htm...

    Cork board

Hmm...I guess cork would be non toxic, as long as they don't put any chemicals in it's structure it should be ok. Hopefully there is nothing harmful that will leach into the water. Hopefully someone else on here knows.

Are there any local fish stores for you that aren't the big chain store types? I find that those usually carry bettas other than the VT types.

Pics of my 1st spawn! Updated today.

Hmm..I just noticed with my bigger betta babies, that the tips of their ventrals are kind of green in colour. I also notice near the edges of their other fins (on a few of them) are a green colour as well. Looks kind of "stringy" or hair like almost like algae. Anyone know what this is...

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!&

Glad to hear you got it out. :) You might want to try crushing the food up before giving it to your betta, and/or soaking it first to soften it up.

    discoloured nose

That is a good like that Kiarra posted. The only time where I had my female betta losing colour is when she was in a divided tank with a male. She would always go up against the divider nose first, and rubbed her nose so much against the divider that the colour came off. After breeding and...

Pics of my 1st spawn! Updated today.

A pic of one of my betta babies. I have about 8 of them that are "bigger" and about 3-4 really small ones. Like really small. I'm kinda worried about the smaller ones. The bigger ones seem to really like 100-200 micron golden pearls. I dried some frozen daphnia, but they didn't really...

    Do bettas eat snails?

I wish my male betta would eat the snails in it's tank (it's not that they're too big...just wondering why he doesn't eat them). If I crush them with a pair of plastic tweezers, he will eat them though. Some snails hitched a ride on a wisteria plant I bought awhile ago. Now I've just kinda...

    We have a jumper.

Sorry to hear about the jumper Raechal. Hopefully you'll find something to cover the opening. I've had friends mention that their bettas jumped throught very small openings. Kind of shocked how they can somehow squeeze through some small openings. Hope you feel better.

    Spawn diary

Hmm...so you had no trouble switching them to adult frozen brine? Mine won't seem to go for any of those Golden Pearls. Do you think I should try some freeze dried daphnia for variety? It just seems like most of my fry won't eat something unless it's wiggling around.
