I bought a new 2.5g Mini-Bow with a divider to put Rufus and Midnite, my 2 veiltails in. I set it up and installed the divider and put the boys on. Somehow, midnite slided thru the side of the divider and ended up with Rufus. I was packing their food drawer and glanced up to see he 2 all flared up and circling each other. I got a net and quickly scooped Midnite out. My heart was beating so fast...imagine if I didnt see them when I did. ANyways, I need to do something to the divider so they cant get pass. Anyone know what I can do? Anyone have this problem?

when this happened to me awhile ago someone advised putting in a large silk plant that reaches to the top of the tank. this will keep the fish from seeing each other & keep them from jumping the divider. or you can always buy another tank :D

I have a tall plant there but it didnt stop them...I wish I could get them each a 2.5g tank but I cant. I begged for this one. My husband only agreed to buy it because I told him I'd divide it and get rid of 2 of the 1g tanks. I dont have alot of room in my apartment. I have Starbrite and Sunshine in 1g Aquaview tanks, Midnite in a 1g jar, Rusty in a 1g bowl and Rufus and Midnite are in 1/2g tanks. So I wanted to put Midnite and Rufus in the divided 2.5g tank. I need a way to fix the divider so they cant pass thru because no one is at home all day and I'm afraid I'll come home one day to find 1 or 2 dead bettas. :-(

if you have the same kind of divider i had in my 2.5 minibow (it's now a saltwater nano tank because my betta was moved into a bigger tank), then it's a clear one with some holes. why not replace it with one that doesn't have holes and is taller than the one it came with? i've heard you can diy them easily with stuff you can buy at home improvement stores. but someone who has actually done it could probably tell you more about how to make your own divider.

Walmart has these plastic mesh sheets called plastic canvas I think. You can get a sheet of that and some report spines. Silicone the report spines into the sides of the tank and slide the plastic canvas in, voila you have a divider!

You can use plastic canvas sheets (7 count should be fine, and is what I use in my 10 gallon tanks), and cut to size.

Here's a link that came up when I went to google.com and typed in plastic canvas sheets:

So he slipped through one of the sides? Some people have used aquarium safe silicone to seal it, or use report spines to go along the sides.

Here are some helpful links on how to:

Hope that helps!

Wouldn't it be hard to fit the DIY dividers because the tank is bowed (bow-fronted)?

i think the tanks oly bow side to side, but not top to bottom1 i have a 5 gal mini boe that i put a divider in and it worked fine. i had a 10 gal divider and just cut it to size, but there was no bowing top to bottom.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll look into those report spines, that sounds like it will work. You guys are sgreat...thanks. For now Starbrite is enjoying the tank all to himself! Here's a pic:
