i may be wrong but the tank seems quite overstocked. And just because the water looks clear doesnt mean its okay. It can have dangerously high amounts of Ammonia, Nitrite, or Nitrates (or all three) in it. Do you test your water?

Well the male has been taken back and swapped for a Firemouth. So would the fire mouth, the RTBS, or the other female convict eat them even with the mother in there?

i did research them thoroughly, and my lfs supposidly only gave me females...hence why i thought they wouldnt breed. im taking the male to swap him for a female now, but what should i do with the fry. just vac it up and chuck it?

there is a rather large 'hole' thats appeared...although i rekon thats from my snowball plec as she buries herself (atleast i think so, either that or she wanders off to the local for a few pints as i can never find her, but she always turns up :P) That pic is identical to one of my convicts...

If your considering keeping fish, then go for it. It'll be pretty cr@p and boring for the first few weeks while your cycling the tank and cautious of how much money your spending. But as soon as you get your first fish in there, it'll all be worth it. Im pretty sure i speak on behalf of most...

I initialy got three female convicts in order to prevent breeding, although they were very small when i got them and hard to sex, so i decided to wait until they got a little bigger to sex them. One of the convicts has always had orange markings on her side, leading me to believe it was female...

I've got 1 Snowball Pleco, 1 Gold Nugget Pleco, and 8 Pitbull Plecs. The Pitbull Plecs tend to be stuck to algae wafers, and the Gold Nugget (only got today) is already stuck to the side of my middle sized tank eating the algae. My snowballs quite alot like your BN, as i've never seen her eat...

I'v got three convicts, and the guy at my LFS said that it was likely they were females, although there was a male or two in the tank. They were realy tiny when i got them (and still are :P). Just wondered if you guys could help me with the sexing of them. Convict 1 Very bright orange marking...

I tend to put the tube infront of the coloured part of the card and see which colour is hardest to see. Probably wrong...but thats how i do it.

wait for your NitrItes to drop to 0ppm, then do a large water change which will remove your nitrAtes. Then fish time :P Your almost there :)

a blue light and a white light :P its the standard Juwel lighting, except the back tube is one of them blue ones. Hope that helps :P I'm no photographer by a long way, i dont even have my own camera, due to spending all my money on fish and cars....so i borrowed my little sisters :P. Thanks...

in my 55 litre tank i have two bolivian rams, a dwarf gourami, and 4 bronze corys. This tank did also have another dwarf gourami, and 5 zebra danios...and although that is probably stupidly overstocked, i had no problems at all. There an awesome fish to have.

used to have some tiger barbs and i asked the same question, apparently its normal behaviour.

i think a group of 6 corys would be good in there.

180 litre, she tends to stay behind the plant in the top left hand side of the tank, near the filter. Where she goes when i cant find her....well i dunno :P

she's turned up again....so im now going to wait a minimum of 4 days without seeing her before i get worried and post on here :P

adult angels will eat neone...its just the way the food chain is. They also prefer to be in groups rather than one on his/her own. how bigs your tank? Neone are a bad choice of first fish to put in your tank, as there wusses...i did exactly the same with my first tank...although they looked...

My snowball plec very rarely comes out :( After finding her in the filter (perfectly fine) the day after i got her she stays hidden behind one of the plants, and all you can see of her is a few of her spots. I used one of the red lights at night and she came out a bit, and occasionaly comes...

well im probably going to stick with the catfish pellet/daphnia/tubiflex combo for a few weeks. It really is quite funny to watch these three convicts, each around an inch, swimming around with far too much space :P thanks :D

IMO 10ppm is fine. If your tap water is 5ppm then 10ppm is nothing to be worried about.

my three convicts are only little (around an inch) and there in a 180litre tank. The problem i have is that because there so small, and the tanks so big for them (at the moment), they never notice any of the cichlid pellets that i put on for them. So i've resorted to feeding them catfish pellets...

How longs the tank been running for? What are your water stat readings?

managed to get her out, and then went to pets at home to get one of the cradles for a Fluval 3 Plus which i've got, so swapped the standard juwel filter for that while i was at it :)

Now i just gotta work out how to get her out :P
