As someone said in my other topic, convict breeding is too easy....and its happened.

I was supposed to have got three females, but i noticed that one was male the other night...and there loads of fry already.

I've taken the male out and put him in another tank (on his own) temporarily until i return him tomorrow.

Should i take the female out aswell as she keeps chasing the other female convict who keeps venturing out of hiding.

And most importantly...what do i do with the fry? If anyone in the S####horpe area or who is willing to travel, then its all yours :p

Should i scoop it out as soon as possible?

All help is appreciated.

You should've really researched the fish before you bought them.. As you now know, cons breed very easily and most will do so on a pretty regular basis throughout their lives (mine had a batch of fry about every month and I've read stories of them doing it much more often than that).

Because they breed so easily and are so common (well at least the black and albino variants), not many people really want the fry other than as feeders. Your lfs might take them but they'll probably give you nothing for them if they do. If you're trying to get some money for them ebay's your best bet but still don't expect much at all.

i did research them thoroughly, and my lfs supposidly only gave me females...hence why i thought they wouldnt breed.

im taking the male to swap him for a female now, but what should i do with the fry. just vac it up and chuck it?

If you leave only the female that was not the mother of the fry in the tank and take both of the parents out of the tank, the remaining female will eat the fry. That is what I have done in the past.

Well the male has been taken back and swapped for a Firemouth. So would the fire mouth, the RTBS, or the other female convict eat them even with the mother in there?

Not likely. Convicts are extremely aggressive towards other fish when they have babies. Even a mother convict is more than a match for most tropical fish. But, that is not say that it is impossible. Just see how it goes for a couple of days. But, if you can remove the mother convict, then the babies will be eaten.

"vac it up and chuck it"

does that mean vacuum up the fry and chuck them away like an old newspaper?...... nice
