    Sick Mollies

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention my water quality ... everything seems normal - ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10-15!

    Sick Mollies

Hi everyone, Two of my mollies are acting strange, they seem to have lost weight and are a little pit pale. I know some people say mollies should have salt added to their water but when I bought them the lfs said that they don't add any and they're always do fine. I've got guppies, platys &...

    Moving House

Yeah, I don't think it's worth the risk of lifting the tank with the gravel in. Thanks for that advice and link.

    Moving House

Thanks for that. What do you think is the best course of action with the plants rooted in the gravel. Are they best removed and replanted later. Also the tank substrate is two and a half inches of gravel which obviously weighs quite a bit, do you think it will be okay to remove this during the move.

    Lost A Danio Last Week...

Danios are really bad for getting themselves caught in tight places. I had 7 zebras which were always chasing each other round the tank. I lost 2 in about 2 months due to them getting wedged into this rock which had loads of holes in it. It was a great place for fry to hide out but a graveyard...

    Moving House

I'm going to be moving home shortly, I'm moving out of a town apartment to a cottage in the country with a huge garden. I'll be living the good life as I'm planning on getting some dogs, a cat, chickens, maybe even sheep some day, well that's the plan anyway. So I've got to move my tank soon...

    Flying Fox Eats Pregnant Platy

Squirrels, Steaks, what are you on about??? I'm not getting your point. :S Something in the tank ate the pregnant guppy and fish are canabals, it's just part of their natural behaviour.

    Flying Fox Eats Pregnant Platy

I found one of my preggers guppies like that before. Came home from work and she had her belly eaten out. It was seriously nasty looking, I just had guppies, platys, mollies and danios at the time. Don't know who the closet piranha was, maybe it was an angry mob, I've seen platys go int a...

My Newest Guppy - See Pics

He's very handsome, how many did you get from the brood? Can I also ask what the male female split was? Anyway with such pretty fish I'm sure someone closer to you will give him a good home.

Can Someone Help With A Stocklist?

All mollies get along as such but you can get a bit of argo if you have too many males and not enough females. If you're going to mix the sexes have 3 females for every male. Playts are great with mollies too, they've got a really peaceful nature.

    Plants

I have the exact same set-up and my plants love it. What kind of plants do you have? How long have you your tank.

    Pregnant Forever!

Yeah guppies are absolute savages for food. But if you have a male guppy (do you?) I'd be very surprised if she's not preggers. If you've had her for 10 weeks and she's not dropped and there's no male present then it's time for WeightWatchers.
  14. Richard James Patrick

    Guppies

If you brought the female guppies back you could get some more danios to keep her company. Honestly she'll be som much happier in a little shoal. :)
  15. Richard James Patrick

    Guppies

Fair enough, keep an eye or your water tests though because you've upped the "crap factor" big time. Also don't know about keeping just 1 danio, they really like company, how long have you had him?

    Guppies

Congrats on your new fish it's always brill getting new fish. I don't want to put a dampner on things but I'm a bit concerned for their welfare.Did you cycle the filter before putting the fish in?Congrats on your new fish it's always brill getting new fish. I don't want to put a dampner on...

New Tank =) But Lighting Question

Hi guys I'm not the man to answer your questions, instead and I know it's a bit cheeky ;) I've got one of my own to ask on the whole lighting subject. So here goes Q: I've also got a Juwel 180 which has 2 x 30 Watt 36" bulbs fitted. I have various plants growing quite hapily but I'm always...

    Mollies

Not until the Molly muzzle is invented anyway :hey: Ah sure I love them really, the little thugs. I'm going to get some fake ferns to make sure the fry have a hideout.

    Gravel Vac

Howya, okay I'm going to describe the "suck on the hose technique" sounds rude but let's not go there. The Vac part of the device should be in the water before you start. The bucket or what ever you dumping the waste water into needs to be below the base level of the tank ie on the ground. The...

    Mollies

Okay, now they're just goading me, my fry are hiding out in that plant and they're freaking out because the mollys are ram raiding the creche. What other objects make good hiding places for fry?

    Mollies

Yeah spotted the molly/platy mistake too late  just did an edit. That's a good list are they common enough varieties, also do you know if any of them are feathery to provide an escape for fry?

    Mollies

Oh great, now they're teaching my sweet uncorrupted juvenille Platys their bad habits. The golden colur Molly is called Bandito because of his black mask and his crimes against plants!

    Fin Rot (red Platty)

Sory for your loss bud, it's a sad day alright but you just have to learn from these things and move on. I wouldn't worry about fin rot remaining in the tank your were cycling, if you've added the Interpet product. If I were you I'd oncentrate on getting the fishless cycling in your new tank...

    Corys

Okay thanks anyway. I always give my fish a viking funeral. There's a little stream by my house, I build a raft (an egg box works well) and sail them off to ValHalla!
  32. Richard James Patrick

    Corys

So are the patterned varieties more sensitive. My tanks well cycled, it's up and running about 6 months but I'm still relatively new to the game so I don't want anything too tricky. Can't stand funerals!
  33. Richard James Patrick

    Mollies

My mollies are systematiclly going through every plant in my tank (bar the Java Ferns) and ripping them to shreds. Can anyone give me the names of other plants that are beyond the mighty destructive forces of an enraged molly. I'd like some plants that provide shelter for fry if possible. I...

    Corys

What size do bronze corys get to? I don't anything too big. I've seen cute little stripped fellows don't know what they're called?
  35. Richard James Patrick

    Corys

Just a quick one, how many Corys do you need to keep for them to be happy. If more than one should it be all males/females or a combo? Also what type of Corys would you recommend to live with livebearers, they don't eat fry do they?
  36. Richard James Patrick

    Fin Rot (red Platty)

That sounds bad, hope he hangs on, if he does get Interpets No.8 Antifungus & Finrot. I used the 2 together (Mellafix and No.8) recently and it stopped me loosing a male guppy. It was slow going though, it took over 2 weeks to clear it but it's worth it if you can save him. Best of luck. It's...

    Sponge Filter

The black carbon sponge will filter out alot of the chemical elements which promote good plant growth, if you're planning on adding plant fertilizers, which you should really if you want nice healthy plants, then the black sponge will gobble most of these up too. I'd recommend using the black...

    Not Again!

No she wasn't an albino, her eyes had pigment, but she was almost pure white. I have another almost identical molly who's doing really well so i don't know maybe she was jucy a little weaker and picked up a bacterial infection.

    How Good Does That Feel!

On that note, will fish only breed if the conditions in the tank are perfect. Even though my water tests are always perfect I am slightly paranoid when it comes to water conditions
