Looks great mate, Personally I can't see a way of getting that kind of lighting under a hood that size with anything other than what you have used... I think with the holes you have drilled in the hood for ventalation and the low water temp. you intent to keep, that you will not have a problem...

my turbo snails dont seem interested in it...have got 10 blue legged hermits on the way so hopefully this will help.have you found any probs with lettuce nudibranch cheers andy

Exellent photo's mate, shame all the hard work has gone...... Cant believe you didnt trust a reefer to look after a few plants! :) Who says you cant slowly acclimatise plants to a salt tank. :D

I had an outbreak of the b*%@ards.... so in went the copper banded butterfly....all aptaisia were gone within days and the butterfly is still feeding on brine shrimp. The big plus is it is a great looking fish aswell...but can be difficult to keep and many fail to survive more than a few weeks...

have you thought of a sand sifting star fish...i have one in my 125g tank and it does a great job at cleaning the substrate.

so you could just have a rigid piece of hose with a filter of some sort on it?

why could you not just use a constant syphon from a rigid hose?....why do you need the box? andy

Thanx for the reply. This does help me alot...One problem i can forsee from a bit of research i have done into overflow box's is the positioning around my tank stress bars. From looking at models available it seem that the streess bars would just be in the way. andy

I have a 5ft running without a sump and really wish i had listened to all the advise when it was empty, and gone ahead with drilling. I have thought about an overflow but have been warned against them....still in the back of my mind though.

hi I have recently done the same thing...just moved up to a 5 ft. It has been expensive even though i tried to do it as cheap as possible, but worth every penny! have no regrets.Its a whole new world of opportunity.

hi I have heard of people using calcium plus in an external filter (with all other media removed) as a 'cheap' version of a calcium reactor. Or at least a way way of keeping ph up and calcium levels up...any thoughts? andy

sounds like far to much ahr dwork and agro. just looking at some of the clams and the maxima's have some awsome colours... do you think t5's would be ok for these to grow or am i going to have to face the expence that comed with getting halides? andy
