I already keep discus and a reef tank. The new tank is 48 by 12 by 15, about 36 gallons. i carnt decide weather to keep tanganyika or malawi cichlids from africa. Which are the easiest to keep? Which are suitable for this size tank? thanks :byebye: :dunno:

No he is always like it, no matter how many fish are in the tank, water stats are good too. :crazy:

In my current tank 48 15 15, i have 6 discus. One is always chasing the others and effecting there colour by bringing out there stress bars. How do i stop it bullying???????? Its not due to over crowding cos it does it no matter how many discus are in the tank. At the minute i dont have another...

My tap water nitrate is 40ppm, so for me in the uk i have to use ro water.

i love fonts two, the 2 fish pictured are :wub:, i would love to keep them.

mine does the same and we keep it in the bed room with the reef tank!! Hard to get to sleep somtimes especially when im on earlys and 4:30 am get up!!

The above says it all really. I have a 48 18 18 tank with 5 discus and 9 other fish, mainly small apart from a hipo cat.

I kept and breed them a few years agobut could not get rid of babies. I was told no body want them cos they are nasty!! When you get yours get a heater gaurd as mine broke the heater in half :o :thumbs: !!???

i suffered the samw symtoms in my tank but i ended up losing 3 discus. Touch wood seem ok now.

i breed angels a few years back, they are quite easy to raise. Moving them to another tankwould be a good idea though.

Looks good now never mind when its set up!! It looks like a rift cichlid tank, is that what you are going 4? 25 quid is bargain, i paid 270 for mine second hand!!!! good luck with it. I sooo wish i had more room to set up another but i already have two and it takes all my time looking after them!!

Nice tank, the hobby gets better the longer you are in it!! Dont worry about mistakes we all make them, boy did i make them!!

A shop near me had a great coloured discus for £200, £40 is about my limit!!!

There is a place near me, he keeps his fish in terrible water. A few years ago i about 10 tetras from him, driped them to get them used to the water etc. within 1/2 an hour in the tank 6 so were dead!!! :( I went back and he said there must be somthing wrong with MY water!!! I know for a fact...

Ive had it set up for about 5 mnonths plus it was a second had tank so a few years b4 that. Filter wise i have 2 internals, one jewel, not sure what size but its quite big, plus a smaller one at the other end of the tank. Do you think i need a new one? I clean both every week, the bigger one...

Yer thanks freddyk, i have ro rite, did a 5 gallon water change yesterday using all ro and cleaned the filter, so im hoping things will improve. the discus are still dark and look miserable.

Don't many people on here keep discus then?!!

Some of my discus still seems dark and breathing a little faster any ideas? :-(
