I currently have a marine tank as well as discus tank, im thinking of getting another discus tank in the bedroom.

Question 1
I Have the marine tank in the bedroom at the minute, its about 40 gallons, if i place the new discus tank at the other side of the room, will this be ok and not fall though the floor?!!!!!! new tank will be about 50 gallons but its a doulbe stand so i might get two!!!??

Question 2
How do you manage to do so many water changes with other things in your life, work, gym etc??
For the discus tank down stairs i have a 30 gallons storage tank to mix ro tap and heat it. I clean bottom of tank with gravel cleaner then empty tank with a pump and hose, then fill it up again with same methode out of barrel, normally about 25% or more. Now done every other day with discus.

Thinking of doing same methode upstairs but i will need another storage barrel in the bedroom, not so good when entertaning the ladies!!
Plus i have to sleep somewere!!
Are there any other ways about this? no room anywere else!!

Question 3
I want to go bare bottom and no real plants just fake ones to hide behind, no tank lighting as such, there will be room light and light from marine tank and halides!!
Just sponge filter and heater.
Is this ok or do i need a rethink??

Question 4
The biggest tank i can find is 48 by 12 by 18 inch high, is that ok, before i buy it!!???

Thats it for now, sorry for all the questions!!!!

1) As long as the two setups don't share common joists you should be ok. Try to position the tanks along a support wall perpendicular to the joists. It really depends on the size, spacing & condition of the floor & joists under the tanks.

2) Sometimes I ask myself the same question. 12 of my tanks are down in the basement, I have 2 hoses that run to the laundry/utility room, one to fill directly from the tap, one to drain into the sump pump. I can fill one previously drained tank while I'm draining another. It takes around 3 hours to do water changes & other maintainance on these tanks. Usually it takes longer, as I start to get involved with playing with filters, or start wathing something good on the tv in the next room. Most tanks are getting 75% weekly water changes.

You could put a larger barrel downstairs, and upgrade to a pump with more head if the one you have won't pump to that height. I would consider putting a barrel in an adjacent room, and running a hose through the wall. I've got 2 running through a hole in the wall in my basement. You may also be able to stash it in a nearby closet.

3) I have 4 tanks set up this way, with clear light diffuser panels cut to fit for the top. Here's a pic of a couple of 20's that sit above a 55;

4) That tank sounds like a standard 55 gallon. If you are planning on going with discus, 6 would work out well in there. There are larger tanks available, but if you are at all concerned about the weight, I would have at least a good carpenter give you their opinion on what the floor will hold.

Honestly, if I were in a house that was iffy with holding a standard 55 gallon positioned anywhere reasonable in the living spaces, I would leave the premises.
