I've been trying to im prove my plant growth, with a diy yeast and suger co2 system, big mistake.

In prep i raised my PH and KH, set everything up and off we went.
it just seamed imposible to keep the PH steady, afther a wile sorted.

Leveled the PH at 6.8 and KH at 4', i prepared a new co2 bottle for the end of every week ready to change, so as to keep the co2 supply constent.

problem i was still having problems with a sudden PH swing.

I ending up with a red snakeskins with PH shock, which has opened the door for a internal bacterial infection, and is now close to death in my hospital tank, i wish i could save it as it was a valantines present from my wife, but i think putting out of its missery might be the kindest thing to do at this point. :(

I've given up to yeast and suger co2 system and might replace it with a proper system that can be controled, as yeast and suger systems a to dam unpradictable, especialy for discus.

Im having problems in my discus tank since ive added co2, Ithink mine has hith or hex.

I hope for both our sakes that the fish get better.

If you can iisolate the fish you could try an antibiotic, as septicemia set in, if the fish is to weak for the med i wouldn't try, good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your discus. :( What happened in the end?

I have to agree that they are really unpredictable. I worry about the pH changing. But I haven't had any problems with fish yet. I don't know anything about Discus except they have to be kept in a certain pH range.

Its going through its second course of eSHa hexamita, no responce.

its a pitty it was one of mt favorites, it was a cheeky little fellow, it would eat from my hand and have the ocasanal peck of my arm hair when i was doing my manitinence

sorry about the discus.
Have you tries a salt bath? Or maybe putting the temp up a notch? I have never had a internal bacterial infection but would melafix help i know it can help get its stress down.

Hope the fish survives.

Never heard of that med what is it used for esha hexamita,no melafix won't help it treats the outside it's an antiseptic med.

Sorry to hear your loss Dude...I might say that it will be really hard to keep Discus in a planted tank since they really don't like the nutrients(fertilizers) and especially the CO2.....I'm not saying it could be done, but when I had Discus man I have to work hard to keep them happy and with school and work I finally decided to give it up....Anyways I'm not saying it wouldn't happen...I wanna wish you good luck on the rest, hopefully you'll pull it out.. :D

I look at your pics on your sig and your fish are awesome...hopefully you won't loss any anymore...Hexamina is a pain in the ass especially for small discus, they can't seem to recover from it....If you can get your hands on some Hexamit, start mixing it with the food on the others just for precaution...that's what I would do....I loss about 4 discus when my fish caught hex....goodluck....

thanks guy, but its bad news, it got the point where it was kinder to help it on its way. the others all seam to be ok, eating fine and what not :) , just one of those things.

its an antibiotic wilder formulated to kill off hexamita bacteria, that plage discus.

tryed the putting temp up, not to sure about salt bath though.
melfix wont do anything for bacterial, its an anticeptic, used for fungus and to prevent infections in open cuts and grazes etc. thanks anyway discus man :)

whats dose rate for a salt bath?

EDIT~ took the co2 system out about 4 days ago, i'm on ph watch at mo, keeping it stable. i might have a propper go with a proper co2 system, with a few small fish, maybe some tetras and some german rans, and NO DISCUS! lol
