Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

Thanks Simona, they had plenty of both about 2 weeks ago when I went. The Dats were only £6.50 and the eels were £3.75. I also picked up an Ornate for £15. He is already in the 180. I will post some pics of the 180 now just loadin them up. BTW would a full grown Ornate eat full grown Hoplos? I...

Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

Sorry about the quality of these. My 62 gal hasnt been getting the due love and care it needs lately. It is in need of a good scrub. With my phone too, which has a good camera but the tank is in front of a window with no backing on as yet so impossible in terms of lighting. Anyway, apoligies...

    Neons In A 29 Gallon

Was it a Honey Gourami? I would be very sceptical at a honey eating adult shrimps. P.S. I have tons of cherries if you are within reach of picking them up from Liverpool you can have some for free. Havent worked ouyt how to post yet sorry.

    Neons In A 29 Gallon

Red Cherries would be fine. The swords and cories will most likely keep the population at a managable level by eating some babies. Adults will be fine though probably. If theres plenty of plants they should be. Apples will breed if you get different sexes. If there turns out to be too many they...

    Neons In A 29 Gallon

You will obviously need to stock gradually, but I dont see any obvious qualms you may have. As far as stocking list, maybe try; 1xHoney Gourami 8xNeons 2 Swordtails 2xMale Guppies, or female, best not to mix though. 3xOttos 4xCory of some sort 6xRasbora 3xApple snails Could maybe add a few...

How Hard Is It To Run A Lfs?

s said by Andy, running an LFS is going to be a whole lot different to what you read on here. This forum is mostly about the conservation and best interests of the fish. If that's what you are about then owning a fish shop probably isnt the way to go. I was seriously looking into it for once I...

    Even More Shocked

What you have to understand is that these places are business's primarily. Only the top few percent of shops will give good advice constantly, hence why these are the best. The main thing I see wrong with shops is when they are asked about size and say, "oh, in a 3 foot tank it will stop growing...

Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

Haha, now I'm confused. Two of the people I would most trust for info on this contidicting each other. Haha, makes sense seen as everything I have read since also seems to contradict everything I read before it. I even went looking for journals in Web of Science, turned up nothing. All we need...

Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

I do now. Reason this happened is I had read up on all the Dats and knew 1 was a true brackish. The rest I had read were true freshwater. Anyway I went to Pier Aquatics not really expecting to see any small ones for the funds I had at the time. As now known they did have some silvers. I asked...

Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

Thanks m8, yeah, I thought about that. When I introduce the dat I will re-scaping the whole tank to try and influence the amount of aggression. Another point is that this GT seems very placid at the moment. I know that can change but he does seem a very relaxed and laid back type. At the minute...

Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

I was more worried about the Dat being bullied at the minute by the much larger Gold Saum and possibly even the Severum. The problem is that the Sev is around 6/7" the GT around 5/6". The Dat is 1.5". Didnt really want to take any chances putting it in the bigger tank. Dont think it would be...

    Finally Got It Setup.

Love the tank, never really done the bare bottom thing but it looks quite good. Your Green Terrors are the Gold Saum variety by the looks of it, the False Green Terror. In my opinion they are much nicer. I would say that as I have one :good: Looking good, what are you changing the stocking too?

Just Got My Silver Dat For My 180gal

Thanks m8, yeah it is a tire track but I am working on my scientific names at the minute, thats what I forgot. Read quite a few profiles o n these, some say 36", some say they max out around 20". Whats ur experience? I tend to think it will more likely max out about 24"? Considering I was...

    My Bullet Tank

kinow why they do the head standing thing exactly. I was talking about completely upside down horizontly. Mine does that all the time to feed from rocks. Its quite bizzare. Sorry for derailin the thread btw.

    My Bullet Tank

Haha, yeah their mouth is funny looking. It looks to me like it has evolved to graze algae or some sort from the underneath of rocks from their natural habitats. As for the scale stripping, I have seen it try it with the Severum in mine, which is why I brought up the Discus, being similar in...

How Deep Should The Sand Be?

You need to be careful as the deeper the sand, the more gas pockets will build up. I wouldn't go deeper than 2" personally. That would be ok if he keeps digging around in it.

Clown Loach Crop Circles, What Are They?

Hi, I recently got 2 clown loaches with a tank I bought. Both around 5/6", both look healthy, eat and act fine, no signs of anything to be wrong with them. Except one of them has a large black spherical disc on both sides of its body, the pic shows it and it is exactly the same on both sides. I...

    My Bullet Tank

Yeah their name is Anistonus anistonus I think, they have lots of common names like Headstander and Striped anistonus. They are meant to be really aggressive, I have caught mine chasing my Green Terror, but not very often. They are meant to strip the scales from slow moving fish, I was surprised...

Whats The Name Of That Site....?

Its a good basic tool, but not one that should be followed blindly. When I first started out I used it a lot but I'm pretty sure it just works to a 1" of fish per gallon rule blindly. It isnt always as strict with what fish you can have together for aggression reasons either. For smaller fish...

Stocking Question (sorry) For 180gallon Large Fish

Thanks for the reply. Yeah my JD is quite small, about 2 inches or so. I have had him about 6 months now and he is just beginning to fill out so I think a growth spurt is on the cards now. Tbh he could easily be moved to the 62 for a while but a) I dont want to keep moving him as I know they can...

    What Can I Do..?

The only real way you could get it to work with fish is if you add the Cray to the tank after the fish and it is big enough for a lot of territories. A 10 gal is going to end in disaster adding fish with a cray sorry. The only fish I would recommend to keep with Crays would be true top dwellers...

Stocking Question (sorry) For 180gallon Large Fish

Hi Ren, I am gonna put the Hoplos in there for the same kind of job that cories do. I do love cories though, i have them in my 62gal. As I use sand in all my tanks I find they are great at breaking up the waste and keeping the sand clean. Ok Nelly, this is the full list, gonna write it all out...

    What A Masterpiece!

This is just my opinion but it could be down to the fact, he doesn't know that females cant get into his tank. This would trigger him, once sexually mature, to try and attract females with his nest. Unless of course, the simple answer is, the other one is a female. I used to have a Betta in on...
