I've got mine on 3mm gravel, although it is very smooth. I've had them for 10 months now and they seem fine, in fact I recently added 3 more to my original 8 because they were on their own in a tank at Maidenhead Aquatics. I can see their barbels and they are not damaged at all. Good luck...
You could change the filter to a sponge filter or a corner box filter. I have box filters in 2 of my betta tanks and they're very good. They hold a lot of filter media and keep the tanks spotless. As they are powered by an air pump the flow is very gentle.
Hi - guess you're on half term!
He is a lovely Betta, a veiltail and very pretty. When he has settled if he hides all the time the current may be too strong for him but most of them can cope with the small filters. You can put an ornament in front of the outlet pipe to baffle the flow if it is...
I was told by our lfs to buy 2 females 1 male. One female was constantly bullied and after asking on here I realised I should have only bought a pair. I moved one of the females into another tank and I still have her. The remaining pair spawned many, many times but the male always ate the...
It depends what you have in the tank. I have an external filter on my son's 20 gallon goldfish tank because the internal filters couldn't cope with their enormous waste.
I also have an external on our 30 gall tropical because I prefer it, the tank is spotless and it is easy to maintain...
Is it safe to use rose quartz in my fish tank? Are there any tests I can do to check it? I have soaked it in a bucket for a few days. It is very pretty.
There is an article about this on the Practical Fishkeeping Website. It is ok to post fry through parcel post special delivery but you cannot post adult fish for some reason.
Hi Wolf - thanks for the reply.
Yes - that is what I have, I got them in Maidenhead Aquatics. Have never seen them there before and I just bought them, have never done that before either!
:hyper:
Wolf - the link doesn't work.
Ok I did a bad thing today. I saw these little Rice Fish in my lfs and I just bought them. :S
I have looked them up on the net since I got home and haven't found out a great deal except that it doesn't seem to be too bad, they are little and peaceful. I currently have a peaceful community...
I use a feeding ring for my female Bettas who are in the community tank. I put the food in the water for the other fish and Betta food in the ring. The girls know that is their food, they wait by the ring for me to put the food in. Bettas are notoriously slow eaters. My males all 'kill'...
This happened to me with the goldfish tank. It has a Fluval 204 external filter exactly the same as the tropical tank (which is always crystal clear) but the water was always cloudy. I tried putting filter floss into the top basket of the filter and it worked really well. Have sparkling water...
I've got a Fluval 204 on my 120 litre tank and have never had any problems with it.
Edit: They cost about £50 in Pets at Home and just in case there are problems it is easier dealing with local shops than internet - just a thought.
I bought a pair in the spring and now I have 11! They live in a community tank where the fry have to take their chance but a few seem to survive every time. :fun:
Thanks for the replies. Have no idea if they are inbred as I bought them from Maidenhead Aquatics. Am now busy putting males in one tank and females in another. I know the females will carry on having babies for a while but it is a step in the right direction! :)
My Platys are increasing at an alarming rate! They are in community tanks but even so some survive from every batch. How long do they normally live? I will then have some idea of how many to ask my lfs to take off my hands!
My 40L tank is one of my favourites. I have 3 sparkling gourami and a male dwarf gourami in there and loads of plants. I also had 3 platys in there for a while but I moved them into another tank to give the fry a chance of surviving. (Dwarf gourami fiendish fry eater!)
You could probably get a...
I bought my son a Fluval 204 cannister filter last month for his goldfish tank. He has 2 enormous Orandas in there and I thought a cannister filter might cope better with the waste.
This one just doesn't seem to be working though. The poo and gunk build up unbelievably in the tank and when I...
Hi Shifting Sands - I am very impressed - I love the Peacocks. Mine are black bars I think. Do you post on Endlers R us? I tend to lurk on there but not post! I do love my Endlers - I need more tanks!
Yes I know I have too many males but getting hold of Endlers of any kind is so difficult. I will definitely buy some more females when I get the chance.
They are in a heavily planted tank so the females are able to hide. The males are busy showing off to each other most of the time.
I do...
:hi:
I have fluval 204. It comes with some ceramic rings and carbon (and sponges). I put granular peat into mine as well because I wanted to try and lower my pH.
External filters are good because you can change the media around to suit yourself.
Congratulations!
I also recently bought 8 baby Endlers who have now grown into young adults, 6 males and only 2 females though. I put them in a tank on their own and they are really bold, friendly little fish - I'm really glad I got them.
I just kept testing my water and everything was fine on the tropical tanks I seeded but I had problems when I changed to an external on the goldfish tank - it went into a mini cycle but the goldies seem to have come through it ok.
I've got mine in the kitchen, I've had them for 6 months now and they have been fine. I enjoy the company when I am in there! They always come to beg for food.
